Hello I'm Grace the Border Collie. I am really looking forward to my stay at the Yarn Market later this week! I have stayed there lots of times and I really love it! I have been there all different times of the year. Our Christmas stay was great fun! Everyone is so kind, they make a lot of fuss of me and sometimes they give me treats too. Of course I have to be on my best behaviour to stay in their good books. They always say they wouldn't know I was there....that's the way to play it! We go on some fabulous walks too while we are there. Selworthy is my favourite but we also go on some lovely walks without having to go out in the car which is great. So all you dogs , if you want a lovely friendly holiday get your owner to take you to the Yarn Market! PS my owner loves it there too!…
We really enjoyed our stay in Dunster, it is charming. The hotel is right in the centre of the village, just a few minutes walk from the castle. It was easy to get there by public transport, the walk from the bus stop was 5-10 minutes, and buses are fairly frequent except on Sundays. The location is also great for hiking. The hotel was old-fashioned, but clean and comfortable. Some parts of it felt a bit gloomy and could do with new curtains etc, but over all it was nice. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and had a lovely view of the castle, but if you have mobility problems, make sure you mention it when booking, as our room was through several turns, stairs and corridors, a bit of a maze to get there. The breakfast was fairly standard, including English breakfast, they should serve better quality orange juice, and I would have liked mushrooms with the hot food, but over all okay. We ate dinner at the hotel, as other options in Dunster were limited. I understood that the chef was fairly new. The food was plain, but over all well cooked. In general I find classic British food a bit bland, and this was no exception, but for what it was, it was good, although a little over priced. The fish was nice, and the cooked vegetables were not overboiled, but nice and crispy. We especially enjoyed the desserts, the salted caramel chocolate tart was delicious.…
We stayed as a group for the whole hotel. Rooms quite varied - some with step-in shower, or bath, twins, family rooms etc. Helpful with organising some additional local visits, advice on travel (narrow roads everywhere!) and arranging mealtimes to fit our schedule. Food decent, breakfast very acceptable. Good coffee! It was nice to book our meals for the following night each day. Dunster is a great place, this was a good value hotel that looked after us well.
I joined our walking group half way doing the Coleridge Way Jordan was brilliant at providing a delicious vegan breakfast, lunch packet and a three course meal each day. Anthony did not only make sure we were chauffeured safely but was amazing at telling us about local history and interesting facts. Sue Dana and Becky were just so attentive cheerful and friendly, truly service with a smile. We had a walking package which was great value for money! I would certainly recommend a stay !
If you happen to be in this part of the country, seriously consider staying at the Yarn Market Hotel in Dunster, a delightful small hotel, with very friendly staff. We travelled a very, very long to do so (from our home in Belgium) and, despite big problems en route, it was well worth it when we got there. The owners are very go ahead and put on no end of different kinds of visits and tours, including star gazing on Exmoor! These packages are well worth considering as everything is organised and the pricing is very good. The hotel itself is very pleasant, with clean, well appointed guest rooms, and the food (both breakfast and dinner) is wholesome and satisfying. The best thing, though, arguably is the very friendly welcome you will get from people like Sue and Antony (the owner). They go out of their way to make sure one is comfortable and can enjoy the experience. We had real issues getting to the SW but we are glad we made it eventually and we can highly recommend this hotel to anyone, be it in the UK or abroad. Make sure it is on your itinerary!…
Stayed here for the hotel's Stargazing event over 2 nights. Would have stayed another night (actually booked it) but had to forego as duty calls. Very friendly and welcoming service, entertaining talks by Bob Mizon and, of course, fantastic chance to enjoy the night sky in Exmoor Dark Sky park. Add to that the chance to walk around the Dunster medieval village, great food and this is a winning formula. Looking forward to coming back to this area and enjoying Anthony's hospitality next time.
Just back from an excellent week with our walking group. The owner, Antony, is a great host and nothing is too much trouble - you just have to ask - he seems to love his job and to show people round the area. The staff were great and produced lovely, well managed breakfasts and evening meals. Just the kind of food you need after a day's walking up and down the local hills. The hotel buildings are of an age in keeping with the rest of Dunster and comprise several houses now joined together. Therefore, expect character and quirkiness but modern bathrooms with plenty of hot water. It is comfortable and clean. We had such a lovely week that I would have liked to stay longer. The area is great for walkers and the hotel provide walk leaders which makes it a great place for walking group holidays.…
A wonderful week of walks - both long and leisurely - around Dunster and beyond. 41 of us had a marvellous holiday. Comfy rooms and good food. Many thanks to Antony, Kyle and ALL the staff and to Kathy and Pam for being excellent leaders. Can recommend the hotel and the area especially if you are a walking group.
Just stayed in Dunster at the Yarm Hotel for the last 7 nights. Anthony and his team were superb hosts and looked after us from arrival through to departure in an efficient, friendly and professional manner. The 3 course meals and cooked breakfast each day were of high quality and provided plenty of choice (4 for each course). The bedroom was spacious, clean and well maintained and ensured a good nights sleep each night. I would not hesitate to recommend the Yarm to anyone looking to stay in the area.
The food was wonderful, the staff so efficient and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for Anthony and his team. I will definitely be coming back again. A fantastic week walking with the hotel guides - Pam and Cathy - who know the area well.
