It was our first year anniversary, a treat! We love Bath and wanted to make the most of the staycation. The Gainsborough was VERY disappointing, I like to only comment on the good but with no response from the hotel for 2 months, here I am. We arrived and concierge member was on their mobile phone, we had to get his attention. It was great we were allowed to leave our bags though. We came back checked into our room, champagne had been organised by my husband to be in the room on arrival it wasn’t. It was then brought to the room when we were in the spa, so it sat there for over an hour! The spa was amazing, the slots worked perfectly, the staff were attentive and professional and the massage was heavenly. This is the second time I’ve been to the spa and the facilities, it did not disappoint. The pools were lovely, we loved the different areas (even with the steam and ice area) We got back to our melting champagne, expecting to see the room had been stocked i.e mini bar....nope We went out for dinner expecting our room may have had some sort of turn down and mini bar.....no We had to use the same robes, slippers as the previous day when we went to the spa in the following morning. Our tea/coffee cups were the same ones we used the previous day. We weren’t advised on air con/flow, WiFi or anything. I understand COVID has stopped a lot of things but it shouldn’t stop customer care and journey! My husband did mention these things after he had paid the large bill and was given an email address to bring to the attention of the issues. With no response at all and a very jaded stay at the hotel here is the review. No where did it say or were we told your stay will be affected by COVID i.e no mini bar, no turn down, no guest care etc. I could have a full body massage but no one could fill up a mini bar...seems ridiculous. For me it isn’t about the mini bar and so on it is about service, what is meant to be luxury service and it was not there apart from the Spa it saves the Gainsborough. I hope that the hotel now has its structure of how to be safe and still give an experience of luxury. We had a highly disappointing stay we paid essentially for a room where you can get anywhere. To be in such a hotel and only have coffee making facilities is very basic. I work in the luxury service industry and know none of our stay or non existent explanation of how it will change your stay was mentioned in any part of booking, stay or afterwards. If you have to ask such things is it truly luxury? Would I recommend the spa yes, hotel no an overpriced bed!…
The hotel was beautiful, the staff were really polite and helpful. The spa was incredible. I have recommended this hotel to many people and would return within a blink of an eye. Great location. Only downside is parking.
Hands down the best hotel in Bath. Their customer service is brilliant, the spa is second to none and we always leave feeling well rested. Safe to say that we will be back as soon as lockdown 2.0 is over!
Just spent a night at the Gainsborough Spa and can’t recommend it highly enough. The rooms are stunning as is the spa. Great location for restaurants, bars and shops. A special mention to James the manager who was incredibly professional and personable as were all the staff. Including the young lad behind the bar. Would absolutely highly recommend and next time I am in Bath I will make sure this is the hoteI return too. Many thanks Sandi
We stayed in The Gainsborough Hotel a week ago and from entering the property we were truly impressed. Even during these difficult and unprecedented times the staff made us feel truly special. Covid precautions are very good whilst keeping a balance of the fact we were also there to enjoy ourselves. We were greeted by Ignacio Sans who made us feel very welcome and took care of all our needs. The person on main reception who’s name I have forgotten was also extremely professional as well as very efficient. If you’re staying in Bath then The Gainsborough Hotel is a must. See you again soon.
