The Francis Hotel garners appreciation for its spacious and stylish rooms, though a few guests have noted maintenance issues. Its elegant decor and rich history contribute to the hotel's charming atmosphere, which many find welcoming. While the amenities, including a hearty breakfast and helpful staff, receive positive remarks, there's an acknowledgment that service could be improved. The cleanliness of the Francis Hotel often earns praise, enhancing the guest experience. Its central location is popular for exploring Bath, yet opinions on value vary, with some concerns over unexpected costs.

Had a delightful stay here for 2 nights. The hotel is classy, classic, and comfortable. The staff were uniformly friendly and there was an air of unassuming efficiency throughout. Breakfast was very good, with a wide selection available. The hotel is in a great, central position, too.

I have stayed at this hotel several times and was always impressed with the overall quality of the rooms, service and breakfast. The room and service did not disappoint but the breakfast did. Gone is the menu and choice and in its place a buffet. Back bacon replaced with streaky. Sausages very firm and tastless, eggs scrambled but dry as sat above heater. Eggs can be fried or poached but only if you ask and staff do not offer this information. Hash browns sat under an LED desk lamp with cold tomatoes so are also cold. Some people may think I am being petty but this is not a budget hotel. In future if I stay again I will take room only and will eat breakfast in one of the many Bath restaurants.

My friend and I have just returned from The Francis Hotel where we had a wonderful overnight stay after a visit to the Theatre. The hotel is first class .The rooms we had were excellent with everything you could need. Coffee machine, kettle, cafetiere, fridge with soft drinks and fresh milk etc. It was my friends birthday and a plate of petit fours were in her room with a voucher for a bottle of prosecco. The hotel is perfectly placed for the shops and the theatre. We have stayed in Bath many times in many hotels but this one was the best. The staff could not have been more helpful, all were really amazing at their jobs. Chris in the restaurant at breakfast (which was lovely) particularly so! We shall be back.

Shame that this hotel seems not as good as in the past. Breakfast was ok. I had to wait 30 minutes for a fried egg and when it arrived it was solid. Buffet items kept running out, my friends coffee never arrived and sausages were tasteless. Not good. My room was dirty, once I notice the caked dirt on the bathroom sorting board, I wished I I hadn’t. I felt this hotel was trading on past glories. Bar staff were selective as to whether they charged service charges or not. I was charged but my friend wasn’t They appeared to only have one booking not 2 although they did sort it out. Not sure if I would go back it’s expensive for what you get.

A gorgeous Georgian hotel that is perfectly located for wandering all around Bath. The hotel is decorated beautifully and the bar area in particular was lovely to sit in and watch the world go by from. Finding the hotel and parking up in their car park was easy with a surprising number of spaces available. The staff really made our stay special though; I emailed back and forth with Talitha before the stay to arrange a birthday cake at breakfast for the special birthday we were celebrating and she was so helpful; always answering me so quickly and nothing was too much for them to arrange. The free bottle of prosecco and birthday macarons in the rooms was such a lovely touch and really spoke to the calibre of the hotel – it’s the small things that make a stay special. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxury stay in Bath – nothing is too much trouble and the interiors are beautiful.

Location- chose the hotel as within minutes walk of Milsom St. with its many independent shops, all interesting but a bit pricey. Also, a few steps away from the Raven, a CAMRA award winning pub. Specialises in pies and sausages. A few yards further, down the hill there are many restaurants, some chains others independent. Hotel itself- lovely welcome at Reception, as others have said. Emily and her colleague very helpful. For such a large hotel it is in excellent decorative order as was our room. Bar prices for rich tourists, as is the restaurant. Buffet breakfast choice looked amazing but no back bacon and, with such large urns, the contents were lukewarm. No menu on the table so had to ask if kippers were available (no) or anything else interesting (no) or fried eggs (yes). Disappointing for such a grand hotel! Parking- small area to the rear, £20 for 24hours. Probably worth it as whilst there are some parking spaces around the square, not sure for how long. Council anti-motorist. Not surprised most reviewers are happy. I feel that the odd poor review says more about the guest than the hotel!

Beautiful hotel in a perfect location in the centre of Bath. We had a really lovely stay. The beds were very comfortable, the room quiet and beautifully decorated. We were comfortable and happy in our room and both had a fantastic night’s sleep. The hotel itself is really beautiful, the bar and area downstairs is decorated beautifully. The restaurant was great, food good and lovely breakfast. Location wise, you couldn’t find a better hotel. Everything we wanted to see was mere minutes away from our hotel. I think the furthest distance we had to walk was 10 minutes. Special shout out to the lovely ladies on the front desk/reception. They were so friendly and welcoming which made all the difference. Restaurant staff were polite but not quite as friendly on the whole. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend to anyone visiting the beautiful city of Bath.

The hotel is lovely, lots of period features and everywhere was warm, which was a bonus. Our room was spacious, quiet and comfortable. The only downside is that the floor to ceiling curtains are about 6 inches away from the window. This lets a lot of light in from the street lights and really affected our nights sleep. We feel a blind is also needed. We were surprised that the dinner menu was so small, but the food was nice. My husband had the cooked breakfast but the sausages and bacon weren’t of good quality and some items were cold, the plates were also cold as they weren’t on a heated stand. The hotel is well situated for all amenities in the city.

Truly amazing hotel and city! If you are considering visiting Bath, then you would be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable hotel to base your explorations from. Like the city, The Francis Hotel is steeped in history and you get a real sense of stepping back in time, only with modern convinces to elevate your stay. It's a family owned hotel that seems to genuinely care about its guests, and its staff seem to believe in this family mindset. Check in was smooth and friendly, with Page and Hanna at reception, giving very practical advice about exploring the city and giving a brief history of this charming hotel. Though hotel car parking can not be guaranteed, there was a space available and a charging point for my EV, which is sadly still a rarity, so I felt I was on a high!! My room, The John Wood, is one of their period rooms, was so large it should be called a suite, with a large sofa and arm chairs, yes, you could certainly entertain some friends here. The bar is very comfortable indeed, where you could easily spend time with family and friends. The Lounge, and almost unique feature of good hotels, is very long and is the sort of place where you meet up a friend or family for a chat, play cards, have afternoon tea or just chill out and read a paper. Boho Marshe, is their French Brasserie restaurant, and the food is great! I had had a busy and exhausting day, so thought I would have the Sirloin, which at £32 was so reasonable, especially considering the size of steak they brought out. Of course, as I started to see the other dishes being brought out to other diners I realised I would have to come back here soon! Some thing I feel needs mentioning, if the waiter is busy, one of the chefs will actually bring you your meal. They are not rushing you, it's just good service!! If you are coming to Bath to explore the city, and you really should, then hotels breakfast buffet will set you up for the whole day! Seriously, you would not need to have lunch. Though I found the Francis to be a beautiful and charming hotel, what makes it special is its staff. They are all so friendly and helpful and seemed to really enjoy working there I would also like to give a shout out to Gems, who so quickly answered my email enquiries and was so kind to me after my busy day.
