Tripadvisor gives a Travelers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travelers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
The Royal Crescent Hotel is the most impressively located luxury hotel in the World Heritage City of Bath, occupying the two central buildings of the world's finest crescent. The Grade-I listed buildings were designed by the famous Georgian Architect, John Wood the Younger and were first occupied in 1775. Beyond its magnificent facade lies a hotel renowned for its charm, elegance and superb service, and the unexpected beauty of the beautiful one-acre, landscaped garden leading to the skillfully converted coach houses, which now accommodate the award-winning Montagu's Mews restaurant & bar, as well as The Spa. This iconic hotel is far more than a remarkable collection of buildings and beautiful gardens. It offers the opportunity to experience a style of gracious living from the age when Bath was the very centre of the civilized world. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are served daily, along with an all-day dining menu, and non-resident guests are very welcome.

The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa boasts a prime location that's highly celebrated by guests for its convenience in exploring Bath. While the spacious and well-decorated rooms have garnered compliments, some visitors have voiced concerns over noise and maintenance issues. The staff's attentive and professional service often receives high marks, although reports of inconsistency and slow responses do surface. Cleanliness is a strong suit, especially noted in the spa area. However, opinions on value for money and the hotel's atmosphere are split, with praise for the amenities but criticism regarding the hotel's ability to live up to its prestigious setting and price point.

My little family and I enjoyed a wonderful 4 day break in late July/August, and were in hotel heaven. We all needed a break away, and were not disappointed. From the moment you arrive, bags are swiftly removed from the car, the car parked, and you are ushered to the drawing room to await your check in. No names requested, all very discrete and professional, yet with a personal touch. I loved being shown to the room by the lady who checked us in, with conversations about bookings for breakfast delivery and dinner being taken along the way. My family had the pleasure of staying the The Lord Nelson Suite, overlooking the garden with a private roof terrace. we honestly felt like we were in Italy, it was stunning. Room service lunch was enjoyed on the terrace, as well as breakfast two of the three mornings. We were blessed with wonderful British weather which made the whole experience even better.
Dinner in the restaurant was superb, and a treat for my husbands birthday.
Afternoon tea in the garden was amazing, and especially the children's version, very thoughtful! Well done chefs :)
My son and I used the pool which was blissful - like swimming in a cave, so stunning. Staff in the spa were lovely.
My husband enjoyed a massage.
It was easy to book all services that we needed.
Loads of towels and fluffy bath robes and great attention by the housekeeping team.
Super little beds put up for the children in the living room part of the suite.
Heavy curtains between the living room and master bedroom, so children could be put to bed and the tv watched in the bedroom - extremely clever idea!
We love travelling and stay in hotel suites - this is super for a family, and would be lovely as well for a couple!
Lovely gardens in which to enjoy coffee and we even spotted the new hedgehogs at night!
A true 5* hotel
I honestly believe you get what you pay for, and this was no exception.
Thank you for a very special and much needed mini break.

We stayed here for just one night as a belated 60th birthday treat postponed from June due to lockdown. We had the most relaxing and enjoyable stay possible. The hotel, location and standard of all rooms is just superb, but what made out stay really special was the 100% fantastic staff who were helpful, warm, welcoming and just the best we have encountered anywhere. Everyone from check-in, through to restaurant and spa staff and the housekeepers were just delightful and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend the massages at the spa and the fabulous (and very reasonable) evening tasting menu. Thank you to all of the staff - it was such a lovely stay. We will be back!

Staff go beyond and above, concierge/valet service is particularly good. Nothing was too much trouble and when we range down for fresh milk etc to our room it came within 5 min. Spa is lovely, very relaxing could have spent all day in there. I had the back, neck and shoulder massage which was one of the best massages I have ever had. Garden area is lovely for a drink, location is perfect to wander into Bath. Stayed in a standard room which was clean and comfortable - very comfy bed, but room a little dated in my opinion. The bar I felt lacked atmosphere as one rectangular room without cosy corners, but the staff were great. We ate from the a la Cate menu in the restaurant (had the lemon sole special and a sharing platter) the food was well cooked and tasty, but I felt overpriced for what it was (Michelin prices but not at that standard), service was however excellent in the restaurant.

On arrival at the hotel and entering the foyer, it was very chaotic with luggage everywhere and a quite rude concierge telling us to take a seat in the lounge and wait to be seen by reception. There was no greeting or welcome. We were then told our room would not be available till 4pm and due to Covid there would be no turn down service. I’m not sure why Covid is the reason for this but then we were asked would we like our rooms serviced each day? Of course we would, why were we being asked this? We were paying a full rate why would we not be getting a full service? When making this booking we were attracted to and planning to enjoy the spa. We were informed we had to book a slot to use the spa, we did book but decided to cancel as the slots are for only 45 minutes. Going to a spa for 45 minutes is not the relaxing time in the spa we had envisioned. When we were finally shown to our room 33, it was so small there was nowhere to place our large suitcase, literally the only place I could put it would have been to remove the TV from the table and place the case on top. We have been travelling for many days prior to arriving at The Royal Crescent Hôtel and have not had this issue in any of our previous hotels. The bathroom was so small that to use the toilet you had to squeeze into a corner. The concierge admitted he hated giving people this room because of the issues. Why was this room chosen for us? The second room 41, has a small double bed fitted into an alcove so that you have a wall in your face as you lie in bed and a tiny gap to walk in to get in and out of the bed. The only place to plug in the kettle is in the same alcove right in front of your face whilst in bed which is dangerous. The view was ugly and the carpet was tired and torn. The whole room felt like we were camping rather than staying in a luxury hotel. This room did not have a bath which was important to us so we asked to be given a decent size room with a bath but were told that the only room available was a deluxe suite at an extra cost of £200 per night. So we were forced to leave and drive home, leaving our friends who had been travelling with us. We had to leave the hotel as no suitable room could be provided. Staying at this Hotel was meant to be a grand finish to our trip and it ended up with all of us feeling very dissapointed. The hotel lost revenue, £600 plus and drinks and meals and spa treatments we may have had, also our friends checked out the next morning, a day early as they were also too upset to stay in their inferior room. So in an effort to keep the deluxe suite empty, the hotel ended up with 3 rooms empty and lost revenue in excess of £1000 and negative feelings and reviews from 4 guests. Not great business sense in these difficult times.

Responded Oct 19, 2020
Dear l4scu, thank you for taking the time to share your views following your visit to our hotel I am sorry that your stay with us ended up shorter than planned. Upon arrival it is our custom to greet and meet all our guests and ask them to take a seat in our Drawing Room. It was unfortunately that you arrived as other guests were checking out, and that the environment might have seem a bit busier than normal. Covid-19 affects many parts of our life, also a hotel stay. We are trying to create a safe environment in your room for you to enjoy during your stay. To do that we need to minimize the travel into your room. Hence the question if you want your room serviced. If you chose to have it serviced, we will of course service the room during your stay. In the spa we also have to reduce the number of people in the pool hall according to what our Covid-19 risk assessment allows us to. Hence the need to pre-book these. This, together with other essential information about your stay, is also explained in the pre arrival information that is sent to you. Cleaning time of a room is approx. 50% longer than pre Covid-19. Upon arrival in your first allocated room, you did not enjoy the décor and ambience. We moved you to another room as requested. At that stage, we then need to go back into your first room and sanitize it again. We did not charge for this room move. You then requested a further move and at this stage the only available option would be to move to a suite, we offered to discount this move quite substantially, but this offer was turned down. At this stage, you chose to leave the hotel. A decision we fully respect and we are sorry that we could not please you during your stay with us. The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is a hotel proud to be known for exemplary service and amazing facilities within a historical landmark building. We take some solace in knowing that the great majority of our guests enjoys their stay with us and enjoy the amazing staff that works so hard to create special moments for all our guests. We ask for forbearance for the various restrictions put in place to create a safe environment for our guests and our staff in these Covid-19 times. Yours truly, Ben

Well where do I begin. Booked a spa weekend after speaking to hotel and explaining it was for a husband’s birthday. £1000 for a below average weekend!!!
We arrived to find no one at the desk and my husband had to go searching to find someone to advise on where to park (part of the package) eventually we were taken to the smallest room that did not resemble anything we saw online. Where was the 4 poster!!
None of the toiletries were refreshed overnight. At breakfast they provided the wrong meat breakfast when a vegetarian was ordered. When we partook in the afternoon tea they forgot the champagne and had to be reminded.
At the spa they forgot the complimentary cocktail (part of the package) and the 1 hour treatment was really 50 minutes!

On a positive there was a french waiter who was great, really friendly and welcoming. Apart from him everything was too much trouble. When we asked for a slightly later checkout the response was no.

The room was small and the bathroom was old and with a peeling ceiling.

What should have been a 5 star birthday treat turned into a extremely expensive 3 star disappointment which we could have gone to New York for the same money with hindsight.

What a shame given the location

The location and the architecture of the hotel are fantastic however the house keeping service was appalling with dirty tea cups for tea tray. For our 3nights/4 day stay the toiletries were replenished only once after multiple requests. It felt like the concierge was also working as a valet parking attendant and was never available for concierge duties.
This level of poor service is totally unacceptable in a 5 star luxury hotel with a room costing 410/440 per night.

Dear pimaimam, Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay with us recently. Firstly let me apologise for not living up to your expectations, nor it sounds, our own high standards that we deliver to many of our guests day in and day out. There is no doubt that the current situation is causing us some challenges, but we are sorry to hear that we did not deliver in these 3 areas. I know how passionate our team is to deliver outstanding experiences to all our guests and I am certain that they will be as disappointed to read this as I am. We apologise again and we do hope we will be able to welcome you back in the future to try to show you another side of our hotel. Yours truly, Ben

From the moment one arrives at the Royal crescent hotel, one is made to feel very special. The concierge parking, the way our luggage was carefully brought to the room and everything hung up for us was done in a most efficient and discreet manner. We had a very nice suite at the b ack of the hotel with a private balcony which was very pleasant. Spa facilities are particularly good here although changing rooms are rather cramped. Excellent sauna, steam room and hot tub, and the massages we had were excellent. This was a very special and very expensive trip and I would not return again at a peak holiday time, but it would be lovely to go back again when room rates were less stratospheric. Faultless service made one feel very comfortable.

The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is a Georgian delight in the centre of Bath. With unrivalled views, large internal private gardens and a heavenly spa, it is the perfect recharge location. We had Room 8 - the one with the arched window at the very centre of the crescent. The seating area and views over the private park and beyond to Bath were worth the fee for the room itself. The bijou bathroom took some getting used to, and was endured rather than enjoyed. However, and it is a big however, the pool and spa are fabulous, and the staff, who clearly enjoy their work, were unfailingly friendly and helpful. A strong recommendation and we will be back - this time with tickets for the Roman Baths actually booked ahead...!

We stayed for 2 nights in September and though the staff were very helpful the service levels were well below what we would have expected. No one informed us at check in that there would be no room service because of Covid 19 so we were very surprised on returning after a long days sightseeing to find the room exactly as we had left it. We were not informed that we could have a tray provided with coffee and tea making facilities until another guest informed us and my husband ordered a newspaper which did not arrive on either morning though we were told it would be hanging outside the door. Small things but irritating. The food was very good in the restaurant at dinner though breakfast was slightly disappointing. Finally, our room was comfortable but there were no shelves or drawers to use for unpacking, the bathroom was small and for the price they’re charging I wouldn’t expect chipped enamel in the bath and chipped paintwork in the room. We won’t be returning.

My wife booked this hotel as a 40th Wedding Anniversary treat, And we have to say we were bitterly disappointed. We booked a special overnight stay that included free lunch or afternoon tea and free sparkling wine in the room and chocolates .
When we got to our room there was no sparkling wine or chocolates ( We had to call reception to organise) not a good start !! ).
We informed the hotel on our booking form and mentioned to the receptionist that our stay was for a “special occasion “. But the hotel didn’t offer any token or gesture to help us celebrate on our previous
Years anniversaries we have had free champagne in San Francisco and Cyprus also a free round of drinks in our hotel in Marbella !! All they could muster was a happy anniversary message in chocolate on a plate for our afternoon tea, which was ok except again we had to ask for extra scones cream and jam you would not expect this level of service from. A 5 star
To have to keep asking is not good they would do well to witness the level of service we have had at a local hotel to us The Chewton Glen near highcliffe
Here the attentive staff cater for everything and you don’t have to keep asking !! . The room we had was small with paint cracked from some of the woodwork
The bathroom had no anti mist mirrors and no grab rail to help get in and out of the bath tub for a shower
All the staff were good and the food quality was again very good
All in all the stay was a big disappointment when you pay 5 star money for no better than a 3 star service.
