Wasn't able to stay here as my confirmed booking was overturned in favour of subsequent guests from abroad. No comment on quality of rooms etc but extremely disappointed with the way this matter was handled. I was offered alternative but lesser accommodation but no real explanation as to why my booking could not upheld other than they 'didn't want to...

Loved that the house was 500 years old with all its original features. It still however met all our requirements in that it had a modern en suite bathroom with a super roll top bath, a large very comfortable bed and a wonderful breakfast. Surprisingly no creaking floorboards for a building so old. The family that own the property were...

My girlfriend and I spent one night at The Old House Suites and had not a single thing to complain about. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to learn that with our 'suite' came not just one, but two bedrooms, with a choice of a shower room and a separate toilet and bathroom. All of these, were finished to...

The old house was recommended to us for a short break in Shrewsbury. It lived up to all expectations. The room was beautiful. The service was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the tour of the house and hearing of its rich history. It was in the perfect location for exploring the town with its wealth of small independent shops and...

2 adults and 2 kids. We experienced a lovely stay in a peaceful, central, friendly Tudor house, made even more special by a tour and history of the property. Bedrooms were clean, breakfast menu very flexible and beds comfortable. We read in the library and enjoyed every second of our stay.

We arrived on a Saturday evening and were amazed at the suite which had two bedrooms a bathroom and a shower room. The quality of the furnishings and the fabulous history of the house was second to none. The breakfast was good and we were made to feel welcome, it didn't have the feel of a hotel but more like...

The title says it all! Warm & Friendly family owners who take every care to make sure you enjoy your stay, nothing is to much trouble. The car park is a couple of minutes walk to the bottom of the hill in a pre paid car park with plenty of shops to peruse over on the way back up. If...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old House in Dogpole sits on an original Anglo-Saxon plot leading down to the River Severn. After the Norman Conquest in 1066, Shrewsbury was fortified and the town wall cut through the garden, but the plot remained intact. The house was rebuilt as a timber framed Tudor mansion around two massive brick chimneys in the late 1490s and retains much of this original character. The house had strong connections with Catherine of Aragon. She married Arthur (brother of Henry VIII) at nearby Ludlow Castle in South Shropshire where she finally returned after her divorce from her later marriage to Henry VIII. Members of the Rocke family were courtiers of Catherine and also owners of The Old House, and there is a tradition that Mary Tudor stayed in the house on her way to visit her mother. ... more   less
