We stayed 2 nights during the August bank holiday. The location is good for us to travel to Peak District and day trip the York Cleaniness - the room was clean but no daily housekeeping, so NO new towel change on next day. Parking - the parking charged £13.90 per overnight, but only have few spaces available. Each time exit, you get the coin token from the reception If you are late, the parking always full. You can park at the Q-park, just across the road and very convenient. £19.50 per night but you can get £5 discount voucher from reception. Breakfast - quite basic English breakfast, bread, yoghurt , nice coffee & tea.

A voucher for two courses and bottomless cocktails. Delicious food . Great service . Nice modern setting . Goats cheese salad for starter. Then cod loin and beef bourguignon. Chocolate fondant. Tried all the cocktails. Really tasty . Chris served us friendly and attentive. Nice setting close to the theatre for our show. Many thanks.

Overall very poor. The room decor was really outdated, toilet sink stank of eggs (was clearly blocked), toilet barely flushed with broken handle. And this is supposedly a 4* hotel, for which we paid 160£ for 1 nights stay….first and last time we will be staying in a Novotel! Stick to Hilton doubletree

I always stay in this hotel when I stay in Sheffield for work and have previously left a 5 star review. I stayed recently for 2 nights and was really disappointed in how everything had declined since my last stay. There was a wait when checking in and straightaway it was clear the hotel was really busy. There were lots of glasses scattered near the reception area and bar and the reception staff seemed very stressed. It was 6pm and already the only available breakfast slots were 6am or 7am. The pool and gym were fully booked so not available the first night. The room wasn’t very clean. There was a sticky mark on the carpet, bits all over the dressing table and everything was just a little bit grubby. I stayed for work during the last lockdown and everything was spotless then so very disappointing. There were kids running riot round the hotel and it was very noisy. People had left takeaway wrappers in the lift areas that were there in the morning. Breakfast was fine but again clear the hotel was very busy and it felt like they weren’t really coping. Lots of items running low, no milk near the tea/ coffee machine. We paid for parking for both nights and got back to the hotel very late to find the car park full. We had to park in a space that wasn’t really a space that took us ages to park in which was frustrating after a long day. I was going to use the gym the following day but 8 people were booked in to the same slot- knowing the size of the gym I didn’t bother going. Overall it felt like the hotel was struggling to meet the demands of the number of people booked in. This is my go to hotel normally but I would think twice before booking again. I didn’t get to use the pool or gym, it was noisy, quite dirty and the breakfast booking isn’t working.

Hubby and I stayed for 3 nights from Fri-Mon. We showered on arrival and found that the seal on the shower had come away leaving a large area for water to escape and the bathroom floor was soaked around the edges and pooling by the door. We reported it on our way out for dinner and were told it would either be fixed or we would be moved to a new room that evening. We returned hours later to discover no change, but we’re reasonable people and decided to allow them the following day to fix it. Breakfast was not an enjoyable experience with harassed staff who couldn’t cope with the volume of customers. No milk in the coffee machine, no pastries replenished, no clean plates, fruit juice ran out and the staff were clearly reaching the end of their tether. We reminded reception about the shower on the way out as we had no towels left following having a wash and mopping up the bathroom floor (to prevent the water seeping into the carpet of the room next to the bed). Back late at night to discover no housekeeping had been in, no towels, and no fixed shower! We also discovered at this point a vomit stain on the netting curtain and rubbish hidden in a cupboard that hadn’t been checked. Breakfast was fine the following morning and we hoped they’d redeem themselves by following up our growing list of irks whilst we were out. Alas, it was not to be. We returned late afternoon and called to say the seal was still gone on the shower, still flooding, we still had no fresh towels or housekeeping and that they’d agreed 2 days ago to fix it or move us. The receptionist reported that maintenance had been in and had fixed it and had requested we aim the shower away from the door (it’s tiny, it makes no difference where it’s aimed, the water it still going to splash back!) to avoid any further flooding. I told her the gap was still there so it clearly wasn’t fixed and she agreed that, if we tried it and it flooded we would finally be moved. It flooded. Obviously. When reporting it (again), the receptionist insinuated it was all running off the door when opened. It’s not rocket science. Hole+water=wet floor. We were moved to the room next door, where there was a better seal on the shower, but they’d clearly regrouted at some point and couldn’t be arsed to finish the job and the toilet system dripped loudly all night. Breakfast arrived, new staff. Very pleasant, calm and courteous but very little breakfast to talk of! Continental was reduced to yogurt, cereal and bread as all pastries and pancakes were missing due to a delivery not arriving. Couple all of this with the fact the swimming pool was out of use, there was only 1 lift and no signs for stairs, a fire extinguisher ripped from the wall that left discarded in the foyer, no hand sanitizer on the 5th floor, no information on any services, bizarre rooms decorated with woodchip and no sink in the toilet and it’s a no brained to never return. We’re not snobs, we weren’t expecting the Ritz. But we paid a fair amount for a very below par experience. This hotel is in desperate need of investment both for its facilities that were constantly broken or in poor condition, and in its staff who are clearly overwhelmed with workload and not coping with the number of guests they have.
