We booked the cocktail room for 6 hours (at a very reasonable price) for my 70th birthday celebration on a Sunday afternoon into evening. There were 24 of us and the room, with its lovely compact bar area, was perfect in size, set up and atmosphere. The room was set with a beautifully dressed dining table for the 3 course meal (we had each selected in advance from the wide menu choice) which was served, with wine, exactly as we had requested. I've had many of my guests tell me how much they enjoyed the food. The help, support, understanding and overall efficiency provided by the hotel staff in delivering this event from initial booking through to its conclusion has been absolutely first class! Jessica was incredibly helpful and supportive all the way through the booking and organisation process through to the day itself, always responding quickly to questions and requests for information, and giving excellent ideas on what might work the best. In addition, Paul and his team delivered terrific service on the day, giving a lesson in how discrete, but warm and efficient service should be delivered.
The whole experience was that rare thing; a service and delivery that exceeds expectations and I simply could not have asked for more!!
Thankyou!!

A very imposing historical hotel at the end of a long drive up to it … some of these grand hotels sadly are very faded …. Thankfully this one is very loved 🥰. From the moment you enter the imposing grand lobby the beautiful bar and restaurant you know your in for a treat .
Check in was a dream receptionist was amazing so friendly and personable Kathy ? couldn’t do enough for us we even got to look at the Room Queen Victoria slept in like stepping back to 1862 a real bonus treat .
Our room was spotless very well designed modern decor well equipped and lovely comfortable bed .
Breakfast : was excellent Buffet style also. Can order table service Perfectly cooked and presented and huge choice and a bonus again full size danish pastries and home made granola , replenished often the only minute quibble was very slow clearing tables .
Parking 🅿️ tons of parking at £6 short 15 minute walk to city centre one small section was a bit unsavoury at night if on own . But would be same walk if stayed at many other hotels as about 5 chain hotels in same vicinity
All staff at this hotel were excellent shout out to housekeeping imo the hardest job of all room was spotless and well maintained
A perfect stay in a grand old girl of a hotel that’s clearly loved and it shows for price we paid was great value for money would definitely stay again

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
A group of seven of us chose to stay at The Royal Victoria for two nights for a 'get together'. On entering, you can't help but be impressed with the magnificent decor and overall feeling of opulence in this recently refurbished historic hotel and then the warm welcome you always receive from the reception staff; we would particularly like to mention James who we felt went above and beyond and for whom nothing was too much trouble.
Our room was in the new wing; it was a good size and well appointed with all the usual 'add ons' including bottled water which was a nice touch. The two double beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom combined style with functionality and even included a bathrobe. Personally, we would have preferred two 'easy' chairs instead of just the one in the room but maybe this is provided in the premium rooms rather than our box standard one?.
On our first night we ate in the very elegant Cunningham's restaurant however, although we enjoyed our food, the two servers were not the most attentive. The buffet breakfasts however, were very well presented and offered an excellent selection of both continental and English items as well as more 'exclusive' dishes from the menu like eggs Benedict and kippers. Unfortunately, the hot buffet items were actually only just warm so we did mention this to the breakfast waiting staff who were absolutely fantastic on both days and are definitely worthy of a mention for being so very attentive.
Before we left, we were lucky enough to meet and chat with John, the hotel owner. His enthusiasm to hear our comments both negative and positive was refreshing and very welcome. Partly under his direction since taking over the hotel, it has undergone a total refurbishment with much care and attention to detail and, it is very evident that the hotel's 'rise from the ashes' is as a result of John's hard work, determination and obvious love of the building (and his job); and this attitude is replicated in most of his staff. He was extremely apologetic for the few shortcomings we mentioned and keen to try and compensate for them. The hotel is easy to find, has its own parking (£6 daily), although if you require a taxi, you simply press the button at Reception and within a few minutes, your transport has arrived. Overall, we would highly recommend this hotel for its comfort, convenience and congeniality.

We made a nostalgic trip to the hotel for afternoon tea for myself, wife and daughter. The afternoon teas came to around £100. For the three of us. Price not a problem, the quality was disgusting and a pathetic attempt. Top tray of three consisted of three Mr Kipling type pastries, if fact Kiplings would have been better. Plus on the top shelf three small pastry tarts with a yellow substance and a melba type sauce dribbled on top. Second tray had two sandwiches each. These were made from four slices of thickly cut bread. One one was filled with what the waiter called coronation chicken, I would have called it tasteless chicken. And then the other sandwich was filled with pickle and a type of dill and gherkin. These sandwiches had then been cut into three and we had each a third of a sandwich on dry curling bread. Please see the photograph. This was accompanied by three similar tarts from the top shelf but this time filled with a mixture of tiny pieces of salmon quite bland and tasteless. On the bottom tray was three tiny pieces of sausage roll, one roll cut into three, and covered in a caramelised onion pickle. Three tiny tarts about the same size as a 10p piece. These had melted Stilton in them. And the final offering on the bottom tray was a yorkshire pudding covered with the same pickle as the sausage rolls. On a separate tray were three quite small scones the type you get in a pack of four from Sainsbury's some clotted cream and a small single serving of preserve. And finally three chocolate creme brulee's these were sickly far too runny, they were like a runny chocolate sauce and disgusting, the waiter asked if we wanted him to take them back to the kitchen, and he would see if the chef could make something else, I thought at this stage he would not be capable of anything else other than a boiled egg. This was topped with two pots of coffee. I wrote two emails to the manager and one email with copies to the MD of the company, as yet the two of them have the same attitude as the chef, I can't be bothered. The whole offering would have cost around £8.00 to produce giving a g/p of 98 - 99%. I used to be chef before I retired having trained at some of the top hotels, anyone under me producing this type of rubbish would have had their arse kicked straight out of my kitchen and would never have come back.

I arrived at Crowne Plaza on a Friday night in October with my two children. When checking in with Klaudia at reception I realised I had made the booking for the wrong date - I had booked for the following Friday. According to the system there were no rooms in the hotel that night so we started looking for other places in Sheffield. Klaudia was extraordinarily helpful, she was ringing nearby hotels, helping me search, while some of the bar staff gave the children complimentary soft drinks in a side room as they waited. For over an hour, Klaudia and I were calling places but there was just no availability in the city's hotels. Then Klaudia remembered that someone had checked out of their room early - but the room hadn't been cleaned as the person was originally checking out the next day. The hotel manager then went up to the room (it was around 11pm) and cleaned it himself so that myself and the kids could stay there. I have never experienced such kindness and hospitality. The staff, and especially Klaudia's kindness and determination to help us in what was a really stressful situation was just incredible. On top of that, they didn't add any extra charges for the late booking/cleaning. The room was perfect and the breakfast the next morning was excellent, in a very beautiful room. Overall, a beautiful hotel with exceptional staff. Thank you!

Klaudia on reception was very helpful in getting our room changed to one with brighter lights. The room was freezing cold and despite our attempts to stop the freezing cold air from pumping out, we asked reception to intervene, but this made no difference. We set the temperature to 26 degrees which did eventually allow us to take our coats off. The room, although very narrow, was adequate and was very clean. Breakfasts were good, an excellent selection of cooked English and continental plates being on offer. Parking was very good and we remembered to check in to avoid fines. The food on offer was highly priced and no better than frozen ready meals. We’ve seen better served in some care homes. Our evening meals comprised a watery fish pie, a tasteless curry and a chicken Kiev that was tasteless and rather solid. No green vegetables were on offer apart from garden peas. But it is the prices which are demanded for this awful food which beggars belief. Circa £16 to £18 for these awful dishes. The choice of sausage and mash with onion gravy was the only edible offering, again with no green vegetables but at £14, still overpriced in our view. The waitress did come round to ask if everything was ok , but stupid British people like us don’t like to make a fuss, so we suffered in silence - until now. We had a ‘gala’ dinner at this hotel on the Friday evening. At £30 per head it was a total rip off, a salty broccoli soup, awful pork belly, and a mushy tepid lemon mouse among the culprits. So, stay here but don’t eat here.

We had a good stay here overall. The staff were all great and service was very good. Our rooms were clean generally although there was an empty bottle of vodka hiding under one of the bedside tables so not fully checked over before we arrived. We stayed in twin double rooms in the newer section of the hotel and there was quite a lot of noise that sounded like water moving around pipes which kept me awake. Parking was an additional £6 and it is walking distance from the centre of Sheffield but we chose to Uber in and back after dark as I was unsure about parts of the route that were a bit run down.

We held a Business Plan Launch at the Crowne Plaza, we used 3 rooms all of which were entirely suitable for our needs. I dealt with Emily who did an excellent job in keeping us informed and allowing us to decorate the rooms to suit the theme of the meeting. The day itself went very smoothly and all interactions with your team were great, everyone I spoke to was helpful and attentive. The team loved the food we had for lunch and again the service was strong. We took breaks in the large room and the team who replenished the drinks and treats did so quietly and discreetly, while we presented, so there was no interruption to the flow of the day. This is the second time we have used this hotel, but the first time for me, as I was not able to attend last year. The whole experience was positive and value for money and once again I must praise Emily for attentive service and delivery from the start of the enquiry to delivery on the day - Well Done and a sincere Thank You from the whole team at IKEA.

This is a grand hotel in the old style, opened in 1861, and has been well looked after. Splendid entrance hall and bar area, lovely restaurant, sweeping staircases: very nice indeed. We had a standard room, but it was deluxe in comparison to certain other hotels in which we have stayed: really spacious and well appointed. Very comfy bed, Villeroy and Bosch ceramic ware in the bathroom, and high quality handwash/cream/conditioners.
The staff were courteous and helpful, the service in the bar and restaurant was excellent and the breakfasts were top drawer. The person who looked after us at breakfast time was Ranjan, who represents the hotel very well.
Should we visit Sheffield again, we would not wish to stay anywhere else.

I couldn’t rate this hotel high enough. I had my wedding day here 30th December 2022 and to say the day was perfect would be an understatement. The hotel is beautiful. From the outside, up to the beautiful suite we had. Due to us getting married there we had rooms at a discounted price but honestly with the high standards of the rooms (we had a suite and we also booked 3 standard room) I would have happily paid the full price! The high standards didn’t just stop at the wedding suite, even the standard rooms were modern, beautiful and more importantly, spotless. The bed was so comfortable and the rooms were so spacious. The staff were all very polite, kind and very helpful. We didn’t get a chance to eat at the bar but the wedding breakfast, evening buffet and breakfast food (the morning after) tasted so nice! I have zero complaints about the hotel, staff, food or anything else for that matter. Now onto our wedding planner, Jess. She is an absolute asset to this hotel. Jess was there every step of the way from me enquiring about the wedding, all through until even now, a week or so later. She was easily contactable and no requests from us were too much for her. She booked as many viewings as we wanted. Even catered for my partner and other guests that didn’t drink alcohol and had dietary requirements and allergies. She was there every step of the way throughout the day and made sure everything ran so smoothly. I already had high hopes of the hotel from having my prom there many years ago. However my expectations were exceeded greatly! This is a beautiful hotel and we definitely plan to return in the fire!
