in our party we not only had a coeliac but a vegetarian who was avoiding gluten. Normally this would have sent any restaurant into meltdown. Not so ! The young lady who was looking after us, dealt with these issues with superb professionalism. There was no need to " ask the kitchen" as usual. She knew exactly what was suitable...

Having had a good meal here only a few days before I returned on Saturday evening this time with my wife. The surroundings and atmosphere were good and the service was attentive but not overly so. My braised ox tongue with black pudding and an apricot salad was good. My wife however had an asparagus Waldorf sale which came without...

Stayed overnight for a meal with ny partner. Room was lovely with a balcony overlooking the courtyard at the front. Slept well in the very comfy bed. The meal was perfect. Steak was cooked just as I asked for. Particular mention to Abi who looked after us, got up early to wait on us for breakfastas we had a very...

I have been visiting the cross sythes for many years to have a drink. They have a new chef so I thought I would give it a go I had gnocchi which was a special order and not a problem for them to sort out very reasonable priced meals and drinks and would highly recommend the new menu. The atmosphere...

Stayed here whilst going nearby for an evening retirement celebration. We received a nice friendly welcome. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Next day we enjoyed a relaxed breakfast. We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening (maybe try that next time) as we were going out, but would recommend The Cross Scythes as a handy...

Ate here with family after a walk in the peaks. Lovely pub with a great beer garden at the back. Nothing was too much trouble for the brilliant staff who even brought blankets outside to the beer garden. Decent Sunday lunch and reasonable value. Would recommend.

Stayed here yesterday, host was great and nothing too much trouble, room was clean, warm and good vale at £60. Food was good, fast wifi, nice atmosphere in bar but over whelming factor was the welcome and service. I stay all over country each week in £50-£90 hotels and must say overall experience here was one of best

We visited The Cross Scythes on a Thursday evening. On arrival, we found the menu to lack choice, especially for vegetarians. The host seemed helpful and attentive, however the decor is in need of a refresh since its refurbishment six years ago. The toilets are decorated in a grotty vintage 90s style, with cracked window panes. This contrasts the gastro...

We have been to the Cross Scythes a few times in recent years and have always been impressed by the quality of the food. However our experience today was quite the reverse. The scallop starter was very tasty, but at £9.00 for 2 tiny scallops seemed very over-priced. The pakora starter was very bland - couldn't detect any of the...

It was by chance that we called in to this marvellous looking bar restaurant. The sight of craft beer is always a good sign and the menu read well. But we didn't want a huge lunch so we each ordered the chicken and advocado sandwich. We both agreed that it was the best and tastiest sandwich we had ever eaten...
