Have been using the lounge at Reading Mal for a couple of years now. Each time I am greeted and expertly served by Yvette. Cannot fault the service and am always looked after well. She remembers me and asks after my family. It's lovely to be treated like a valued customer and it's become a reliable place to meet colleagues... More

Nice hotel, very tasty afternoon tea. The bar was very busy Saturday night which is good but it took a while to get a drink. I was a little disappointed with the toiletries in the room, as only a shampooconditioner in one bottle was offered. I would have expected a separate shampoo and conditioner and a body lotion but this... More

We had left the organisation of our Christmas party to the 11th hour - and yet Imogen within the events team worked with us and manged to create a fantastic evening. The venue itself is very stylish, but with a warm, cosey vibe. The staff were incredibly attentive, and saw to every need - both before and during the event.... More

This is the 5th year running that we have met as a group of 10 to have a meal in the Brasserie and stayed in the hotel. The food is always very good and the staff work really hard to please. We ordered the £55 per couple steak platters which were great - when we commented that there weren't enough... More

Great first impressions, but on closer look there was dust everywhere and dirty tiles. The toilet roll holder was falling out of the wall, and really not what was expected from a 4* "upgraded room". It has real potential as it is a beautiful building, but overall we found it really rough around the edges :-( and we were disappointed... More

The location of this hotel is simply spectacular! I've been frequenting Reading for years for work from the US and this is usually one of my top 1-2 places to stay. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. This would normally be a 5 star on my scale BUT... The thing that really set this place back is one incident that I... More

The first time I stayed here was in one of the One Bedroom suite's which was great, at the top of the hotel with a view. Food was nice and the hotel service was good. However, I returned 1 year later and stayed in the larger Executive Suite. At arrival the room looked great despite having no view (situated in... More

The room I was given was 406. It was in a corner of the floor and if you have lots of luggages, good luck. There is no elevator to your room and one has to walk several stairs before you reach your room. Then, the hot water is not cold due to the room location. I had to turn all... More

Dear val652, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Trip Advisor. I was sorry to read that you found the location of your room inconvenient. The hotel is a Grade II listed building and was built in 1844, therefore the layout is not as conventional as some of the more modern hotels but we think this... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The brief encounter, that fleeting glance from across the platform, a longing to be with the one you shouldn't...Meet me outside the station at this gloriously converted rail hotel. You shouldn't have this much fun so close to Heathrow, but you will at Mal. You shouldn't find a train set in your room, or a bath big enough for two, for that matter. ... more   less
