The hotel is quite old and traditionally decorated. It could do with a lick of paint. My room was comfortable (I like a firm mattress and pillows). They have a menu but I didn't fancy anything on it. You can also eat at a nearby Indian restaurant if you book dinner bed and breakfast. Breakfast was ok. I would stay again for a night or two.

The Mercure George hotel in Reading is situated in the centre of the city. Ideally placed for all the shops and the large shopping centre. Parking is a bit of a problem as you have to use the local car park. The hotel was nice and clean and the reception staff were very helpful especially regarding the car parking. A very quaint hotel with a lot of history, but still offering modern facilities including disabled access. As my wife is in a wheelchair we were given a lovely handy room with disabled facilities.

I stay in a lot of hotels for business and by far this has to be the absolute worse! Food terrible, overcooked and microwaved. No tea/coffee facilities in room. Staff incredible rude and unwelcoming. Especially the blonde breakfast waitress. I said good morning as I entered the breakfast area only to be greeted with “we are closed”! Breakfast served from 07:00 however I was refused a coffee at 06:50 because they “haven’t opened” although I was a guest. First time staying at the hotel and will certainly be the last. Really suggest some of the staff attend customer service training. If the owners of this hotel want to succeed they need to address the issue of rude staff and terrible food. Shocking service.

Blood on sheets / uvet on both beds.. Dated. Poor quality. Car park miles away. Will never ever stay here again. The cleanliness is very poor . Only finding this on returning to the room and pulling both sets of bed sheets back

Hotel very handy for train station and town centre. Was slightly concerned about what colleagues had said but found this hotel to be in good standing. Nicely decorated room 208 and reception and bar/restaurant areas. Staff very polite and friendly. Couldn’t fault it
