What makes us a cut above the rest is the way we do things. We have designed the pentahotel Reading to be simple and pentastylish, to provide excellent value for money, create a pentafun and relaxed space with service that is welcoming and personal. All of this not only makes us the newest hotel in Reading, but also your neighbourhood lifestyle hotel. The perfect place to eat, drink and relax is the pentalounge, our „lifestyle lobby“ that multi-functions as a reception, bar, and cafe, perfect as a neighbourhood hub. And we have spacious air-conditioned rooms each feature a 38-inch flat-screen TV with Google Chromecast connection and free in-room movies. No matter what brings you to Reading, there is always time to have a look around. There are the medieval Abbey ruins, historic rivers and of course the majestic Thames Valley countryside to inspire you. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy you could also try out some of the local restaurants or pubs or the fabulous shopping malls.

Terrible. It would appear that I was put on a smoking floor and given a smoking room - I was not informed of this at check in and I was not given the option to chose. The lifts are questionable... they always overshoot the floor by about an inch and with one of them, the door closing mechanism is so slow and noisy, it doesn't give you the highest level of confidence. Service at the front desk is painfully slow. Not sure why they don't get more staff on when it starts to get busy. Finally, the key card system is absolute rubbish... the number of guests (myself included) who had to go back to reception (and wait and queue because not enough staff were in attendance) to get our cards re-coded every single day was just ridiculous. This has got to be one of the worst hotel experiences in my life. I have stayed in Travelodges which have provided better service than this.

We stayed for a wedding just outside Reading and had a lovely time. The room was great- the bed was incredibly comfortable and HUGE! Breakfast was delicious and the free late checkout on Sunday was very much appreciated. Would definitely stay there again.

Stayed their for three nights; however was charged for five nights when I checked out earlier. Stay away!! I had spoken to multiple receptionists prior to checking out who confirmed that I will be charged for 3 nights only; however when I received the invoice; I was charged for 5 nights.

If this is a 4* hotel I'm glad I stayed in the Travelodge over the road at almost half the price - at least you know what to expect. There seemed to be a lack of staff; the ones on duty seemed to be doubling up on bar and reception but you couldn't tell who was supposed to be doing what as they're too cool to have uniforms. From what I saw check in and out was slow and inefficient. The bar choice of beer was extremely poor, the prices high even for a hotel and the staff's product knowledge very poor. Certain male staff also seemed to have an attitude as if it was beneath them to serve you. I reckon they lost a lot of bar income over the 4 nights if our event.

I was on the organising team for the event mentioned by recent reviewers. To that extent I share your frustration and feel somewhat responsible for your experiences. Overall I did not have the issues some of you had but there certainly were rough corners. I came by train (at £5 for a return ticket it is far cheaper than parking anywhere in Reading) so didn't suffer the carpark problems. But it does seem strange that a large central hotel doesn't have its own carpark. My room was clean and comfortable. But being right alongside the busy Inner Distribution Road it was noisy right through the night. The room was far too warm and I only discovered the air conditioner controls on the last morning. No instructions for that nor for the free wifi which was quirky to access and the free option was only 1Mbs. Shower gel dispenser empty. Kettle hidden on bottom shelf and no sensible place to use it. As others have said the door keycards were unreliable, mine had to be reprogrammed 3 times as it wouldn't work - it is also need for the lifts - and was disabled Sunday as it thought I had checked out. Breakfast was the only good meal though the staff were a little too efficient and cleared my tea cup away while I was trying to work the toaster. Out gala dinner food was mediocre. I could go on. Staff friendly but they could have done better.
