We stayed at The Bear Hotel for one night in the charming little Oxfordshire town of Woodstock. This is a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful Cotswolds and Blenheim Palace. The hotel itself is a centuries old coaching inn but has been beautifully done inside and well-looked after. On arrival, we were able to park our car easily and received a warm welcome at the Reception. We had booked two rooms for our family which were adjacent. These bedrooms were spotlessly clean, well-appointed and stylishly decorated and furnished with comfortable armchairs and beautifully made beds. Dressing gowns and slippers are provided and very nice toiletries are by Elemis. Rooms also have tea/coffee making facilities including fresh milk. In the evening we ate a very good meal from the restaurant and the bottle of Italian chardonnay wine we ordered was fabulous. The service at dinner and at breakfast the following morning was friendly, attentive and not intrusive. In these Covid times, this hotel has clearly taken more than sufficient precautions and leaves you feeling very safe and reassured. The staff were hardworking and clearly committed to doing their very best to make all guests feel welcome and enjoying their stay. We would recommend the Bear without hesitation to anyone wanting a relaxing getaway, whether couples or families and would love to stay there again.

Return visit to Blenheim and The Bear. Excellent over all. Love the changes they have started to make. Front room and bar looks and feel really good. Good and service was as good as u get in London 5 star hotel. Drinks were pricey but this is a 4star classy hotel. There is a pub across the road if you want cheap drinks and chaos. Steps well taken to protect guests from Mr. Covid. Over all amazing stay and will be back next year for sure.

I'm so impressed with this hotel. I stayed about 2 years ago but it's like a new hotel now. Everything from the welcome by reception, to the quality of the room (over 800 years old apparently) and the breakfast (best black pudding ever). But the crowning glory was the dinner. The food was comfortably 3 rosettes with the highlight being the lamb Wellington. Hats off to the management team for turning this place around.

Lovely stay in the hotel . Friendly and polite staff. Had dinner which was OK. Starters had cartilage in duck and had to be returned Do not drink at this restaurant. A single bacardi is almost 7 pounds with mixer on top . Multiple joints around which give you a double for same price We had a suite to stay and it was a curious room .the heating was nice but the door was cut in such a way that cold air came into the room . They charge 10 pounds for parking and you can give it on the outside for 23 hours without charge . Staff really good though and very helpful

Response from Bear Hotel, General Manager at Macdonald Bear Hotel
Responded Oct 21, 2020
Dear Adrian C, Thank you for your review and I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. I will look into your comments regarding slow service. I am a little confused on your comment regarding techno music as we do not play techno music in the hotel. Thank you for your feedback regarding our drink prices, we are currently reviewing them. I hope that we can welcome you back in the near future. Kind regards, Raj Chakraborty
