Our stay in Oxford was scuppered by Covid-19 because everything was shut. The hotel is in EXACTLY the right place to get out and about within easy walking distance to the best tourist attractions. Anyway we decided to "Brave the storm" and stay there anyway. The staff were in constant communication as things were changing, almost hourly (thank you very much). Our stay was magnificent, staff were ALL fantastic - Happy to help and genuinely caring, without the fake/over the top gushing plastic demeanor. It's really refreshing to stay in a hotel that in itself is a great experience and also being managed (from bottom to top) by members of staff that really, really care about your stopover. This was just like being at home. Such unusual circumstances, everything shut, meals in your room e.t.c. could so easily have ruined our stay - what really pulled the iron out of the fire was mainly the ambiance of the hotel and the "Can do!" community that were happy to do anything and everything they could, in order to make any negatives into a positive experience - IT WAS!!! We'll definitely be back when this madness is all over. Once again - Thank you all so very much. Every single member of staff helped to make our stay with you extremely pleasant in the worst of circumstances.

My husband and I stayed here one night and we truly enjoyed our stay. We loved the concept of the hotel, how they incorporated parts of the former prison, and the cleanliness of our room. All employees were kind and helpful when we had questions. Our bed was comfortable and we loved the darkness in the room while we slept. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone!

I stayed at the hotel for one night with my new finance to celebrate our engagement. Everyone at the hotel was very welcome and they even put some chocolates in the room for the engagement. Hotel is great, its different with a very good location. No complaints there. The issue I had was the when I got my car back from the valet parking, the driver was no where to be seen and I got in and my hand sanitiser was gone. I know its not a very expensive product and I'm not bothered about the actual sanitiser, even though it is a valuable commodity these days with the corona virus. It just bothers me that they would steal something out my car. It just struck me as in they are getting in and out of cars all day and they need it more than me, but it really did frustrate me in honesty. The hotel is great I just wouldn't use the valet service because what else would they take. I cant say this about all the drivers there but one specific person decided to take what wasn't theirs.

We stopped her one night as a quick getaway, it’s set in a former with lots of the original features left. If you book parking at malmaison it’s right in front of the hotel and if it’s busy the car valet service will move your car to a secure location. The receptionist who checked us in was lovely, she was talkative and welcoming and we were also given a complimentary upgrade. The room was on the top floor and very spacious with the option to cover the windows when you sleep. Although the rooms were clean and tidy, there were a few minute things what were off like the rust on the bath, a build up of limescale on the shower head, tea stain on the desk and chipped wood on the legs. These are just minor things that didn’t affect our stay but for the price for the hotel I wouldn’t be expecting this. The rooms were nice and warm, with a good power shower and the pillows and bed quilt were filled with feathers. In the morning we went down to breakfast area and we had the option of a continental and a hot breakfast. The continental was lovely, not too much choice that your overwhelmed but a perfect selection, for some reason you could only have black coffee and water out of the coffee machine. The hot food came, and as nicely presented as it was the bacon was dried out, the potato croquettes were cold and the eggs were overcooked. But we didn’t complain as it was included in the room rate, so we thought. We went to go and check out and we had an outstanding bill of £4. We questioned this and it turned out only continental breakfast was included but there was no mention we’d have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast in the breakfast area. Overall, a lovely stay in a prison- which will be my first and last time hopefully.

Simply amazing. I've been to Oxford many times but was looking for a unique experience for our anniversary and Malmaison completely exceeded all my expectations. The bed was laid out with rose petals, they gave us a special anniversary dessert and staff were lovely from check-in to check-out. They even arranged taxi service for us. The food was superb (cheesy truffle chips are a must!), the location is so unique and still central. We had concerns because we stayed during a heatwave but the rooms managed to be cool and Malmaison had fans in the room just in case. I would highly recommend and will most definitely be visiting again. Thank you all for a memorable anniversary.
