The service was amazing, we had private entrance. We had pre ordered champagne and red roses on arrival. There was a private courtyard garden, we couldn’t use it because of weather but I imagine it would be very nice in the summer. The staff were brilliant we had breakfast delivered to the room at a time of our choosing. The en-suite was massive and really luxurious. Was extremely special break.
The hotel was lovely - a great central location and a very cosy and warm room. However, the breakfast was very disappointing (I have had better in hostels). Considering the amount of other similar reviews about the new Covid-friendly breakfast option, it's a shame that the offering hasn't been improved yet. We have recently stayed at other hotels who have had the breakfast room open with pre-booked slots. Alternatively, we would have been very happy with a small but fresh option delivered on a tray, rather than cheap, low-quality, pre-packaged options.
We loved a lot about this guest house/hotel. Great location in the centre of Oxford so a good base for exploring the city. Many of the building’s period features retained. Our room was well equipped: good size comfortable bed. Large tv. Nespresso machine, kettle and tea/coffee/milk. Bottled water. Control over temperature settings. Great bathroom, with rain shower and hose in the good size walk-in shower cubicle. WiFi was available- but for some reason connections were open, leaving guests totally exposed to cyber eavesdroppers/ hackers!! Not at all good in 2020 - and so easy to do something about. We knew what to expect regarding breakfast. The hotel had warned us the breakfast room was closed due to COVID, and other reviewers had expressed their feelings about the alternative arrangements. The breakfast tray left outside each morning was unfortunately as poor, uninspired and lacking in choice as others had said. If there really was no way to open the breakfast room in the COVID era (pre arranged timed sittings not possible??) then surely the alternative should be the most imaginative and appealing offer possible on a tray, or if that is not possible then consider offering an appropriate discount off the room rate or maybe a breakfast voucher for use at a local restaurant. Post COVID we really would be happy to stay here again - but in the mean time we would suggest the powers that be first secure the WiFi, and second follow through on the promise to multiple reviewers, and provide guests with a serious gastro improvement, and provide something they can really look forward to for their first meal of the day.…
Overall, I must say I don't think this hotel came up to scratch. On the plus side, the staff were friendly, the bathroom was good and the bed comfortable. Our room was a little poky, though I accept this is largely down to the design of the building and how the rooms have been sectioned off within the original structure. But the breakfasts are the big disappointment. I know times are difficult, but with cafes and restaurants open as competition, I really think they could have made more effort than the rather paltry pre-packed breakfasts. I was told they're looking at improving these, but to judge by previous reviews, this seems to have been the position for a while. So I'm afraid I am unlikely to stay here again.
Excellent property in a great location. A relatively quite street in the centre of Oxford. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. We drove and parked at the Worcester Street car park (use the machine and not RingGo app) although park and ride would have also been convenient. We will certainly stay here again and have no reservation about recommending to others.
