Needing to stay just one night in Oxford I found the Victoria house hotel was the ideal location being central and only ten minutes walk from the rail station. Being situated on such a busy street its front glass door is is squeezed in between bars and restaurants so not very impressive. When I first stepped in through the door... More

Stay here only if you're desperate. Grubby entrance hall, shabby public areas, no lift, no A/C, loose tap in the bathroom, a toilet with a flush handle that collides with the wall, damp up the wall of the bedroom, very noisy when the window is open. Sleeping in the car would have been a better option.

The room was okay. The rest not good. You'll strongly hope that there is no fire. The fire alarms are not respected by the employees. It is located in a busy street in the middle of pubs, restaurants and clubs, it's noisy and full of people all night.

This is an average hotel, clean, functional, good wi-fi, no frills, no breakfast, no lift, as a last minute buy reasonably priced - but in a great location considerably cheaper than those hotels around it. Downside noisy at night if window open - no a/c.

On George Street, walking distance to the University (Magdalene St.) and close to lots of (Student oriented, of course) pubs and restaurants. Also shopping. No lift, so you have to lug your bags upstairs. Nearest parking is 25 Pounds for 24 hours. So: location wins; rest is so-so.

We stayed a Thursday night. Good location in the centre of the city and easy walk to everything. Main issue was tge noise. Throbbing up through the floor from the nightclub below until 3am and then the street noise continued. Hardly slept.

Really surprised this hotel has so many poor reviews as we've now stayed here twice with no complaints. The location is perfect for trips to the New Theatre - the hotel is directly opposite, in the middle of a high street with a wide choice of restaurants, bars and shops. It's only a few minutes walk from the train station... More

What a fabulous gem to find right in the heart of Oxford. Although there was a hiccup in our booking arrangements on the Friday night the lovely Jay soon sorted it out. Our room was very adequate for this short stay. Very clean throughout. Glad our room was at the back as I would imagine it can get very noisy... More

After reading the reviews I must say I was dubious ...but what a pleasant surprise. my standard double room was spotless. ..looked like the room had been recently painted , the bathroom looked brand new ...sheets...bed all super plus flat screen TV. .. centrally located is an under statement. ..and right opposite Jamie's Italian. Staff polite and helpful Requested a... More
