Just before the lockdown I have the chance to enjoy a 2 nights stay at Mercure East Gate Hotel; it was a superb experience, attention to service is far beyond what I would usually expect especially in this pandemic. At a reasonable room rate, it provided sincerely warm hospitality in an experience that feels forgotten by the average accommodation. The hotel has genuine charm and character. Nelly at reception was super friendly and only too willing to help, provided us with some interesting insight into the hotels history and local importance. The breakfast was just what we needed the staff polite and very helpful. We will surely be back soon after the new announcements .

Tucked away just off High Street this hotel centrally located but our room certainly wasn’t noisy. It was smallish but clean enough, though we did need the air conditioning in October to counter the fierce heat. Breakfast was somewhat meagre but Covid compliant. Overall a decent stay.

Location is great, walking distance to everything. Room OK, bit jaded but everything worked, temperature control worked and window opened! Great and unusual in hotels these days. Had a great nights sleep. Shower was really good. Staff were lovely, all super helpful. Breakfast was OK. Its challenging times with Covid so understandable. Better coffee would be nice. One thing to note is that there is NO car parking - reviews led us to believe there was. Not a major issue but had to drive out, park car and walk the 10 mins back. £20 per night in St Clements, a council car park which took RingGo payment - very useful if you need to extend and are still in town. Otherwise park and ride may be a better option. Overall ideal place to stay and visit the best bits of Oxford.
