I stayed at Brown's for 2 days in July 2016. I took the bus from Heathrow - very convenient - but neglected to research the location - totally my fault - and got off the bus quite a long walk from Brown's. I was in Oxford for summer school, carrying a backpack of clothing and another heavy backpack of 15+... More

Hidden gem on iffley road. You can order your breakfast at the counter and sit in the beautiful garden at the back. My breakfast came quickly and looked and tasted great. In an area where good breakfast places are hard to find, this is definitely the option to go to.

The small 'cabin' (non en-suite) room cost me £70 a night and there was no in-room tea/coffee making facilities. Although breakfast was included the policy is now to charge extra for breakfast. The communal shower didn't work on the second floor either. I cannot understand why owners want to screw the last pound out of guests when it sours the... More

Behind an unprepossessing blackboard outside lies a delightful cafe for breakfast/brunch/teas/coffees etc. Great for us locals. All sorts of riffs on popular cafe food (the smell of freshly made cinnamon buns/banana bread and similar really make the place sing. All this and a bakery - fresh bread and offbeat deli bits for sale...

We stayed two nights at Browns recently and loved it. The guest house has just been renovated so the room we had felt lovely and fresh. Massive bathroom and very tasteful decor. The best thing though was Silvie cafe. Breakfast isn't included in the room price, but we didn't mind that at all because the cafe was so good and... More

Arrived after a long & tiring journey an no-one to answer the door bell. Not sure if it worked. I was eventually let in by guests leaving & I seemed to take the staff by surprise. Bookings were on a writing pad (no book) & the room I was allocated was given to someone else who was told she hadn't... More

Thank you for your comments. It's difficult to know quite how to understand your poor review. We are working hard on our new way of working and so far have enjoyed a wonderful response from both guests at Browns and customers at Silvie (our bakery cafe on the ground floor). We would never wish any of our guests to experience... More

We chose here for leisurely drinks and afternoon tea to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversay. Staff very welcoming, good ambience and a great place to people watch by the window. Afternoon tea was nice, a few more sandwiches and an offer of more tea would have been nice. All in all a very pleasant couple of hours spent. Would come... More

This place was absolutely delightful. I stayed on my own in June 2016. The lady who first greeted me was so sweet, the room was clean and spacious, the cafe is lovely. It has a friendly atmosphere and is bustling with life. It's about 10-20 minutes walk to the high street and is situated in a nice neighbourhood.

We booked this guesthouse for a last minute weekend trip to Oxford. We found it to be extremely clean and comfortable with a lovely shabby chic interior. Our double room had an en suite bathroom and we were free to help ourselves to tea, coffee, water and hot chocolate from the second floor landing. We were also informed that hairdryers... More

Thanks for such great comments and glad you enjoyed your stay at Oxford with us. Sorry Silvie wasn't open - we were having a well earned bank holiday break with the little ones (and some of us getting tipsy at Common People..Haha) More

The web-site is very carefully worded to make it not entirely clear that breakfast is not included in the booking. 'Enjoy breakfast at Silvie, the bakery cafe on Browns’ ground floor', as the web-site says, doesn't give you any indication that you will have to pay extra for it - Silvie is a separate business.

Thank you for your comments and we have noted your appeared confusion. As explained upon your abrupt and upsetting departure; this is our new way of working and it is clearly outlined to all those booking their accommodation that the rate is room only and as you were not the one who booked your accommodation this information must not of...
