This is a truly amazing place. From the moment I contacted the cottages to arrange a booking, I've experienced top class customer service. My booking was handled promptly and with much professionalism. We arrived to find Sandown centrally located with a lovely commanding view of the front lawn area and excellent patio area, leading to gardens to the rear. It... More

I have stayed here a couple of times and on both occasions have been impressed. Not only were the cottages I stayed in well furnished and really comfy, the quality was well above the standard rental getaways you find. Another highlight is the attention to detail spent on providing your children with distractions and entertainment both inside and outside the... More

A real home from home. Every utensil known to man was in our cottage and we did not need to bring anything with us. ...wish I had known and would have saved some space in the car. Pool towels provided too. Even had washing up liquid and everything for the washer etc. Lovely comfortable beds and our cottage was very... More

My husband and I were guests of a family who had booked to stay in Weir house one of the cottages on offer at Bruern. Our time spent there was lovely, a beautiful setting with wonderfully kept gardens and surrounding areas and superb facilities including gym, in and outdoor pool, games room and many other fantastic things to do. Our family of 9 stayed in Weir House for three days and had a great time. House and gardens are truly beautiful, all set within the well maintained Bruen cottages complex. The house is huge and has plenty of Cotswolds charm. Loads of space for a large family but no shortage of luxury. We had three young children with us... More

Dear Screddie Thank you for your wonderful review of your stay at Bruern and I'm glad to hear we managed to please both the younger and older members of your party. Unfortunately due to our location we suffer from slow internet however that is soon to change, (early next year) when we will have fibre optic broadband, which will be... More

The cottage was well very nice and perfectly clean. The kitchen had everything we needed and was stocked with a nice welcome of groceries. The garden was absolutely beautiful. It also was in a perfect location for the Cotswolds!

We have stayed at Bruern Cottages several times and knew what to expect. We were not disappointed. The cottage, Saratoga, was spotlessly clean, fresh linen on the bed, logs and firewood for lighting a wod burner. A parcel of food for our stay, including milk, tea, cake, eggs, bread, fruit juice, and even a bottle of champagne to enjoy. The... More

Thank you for your wonderful review and I'm really pleased we were able to accommodate you - am I right that you were the couple staying in Saratoga? Although we love dogs at Bruern, we're usually only able to have them staying in Shipton. That said, as in your case, we can sometimes accommodate a small dog at the last... More

Sandown is a very charming cottage in an amazing setting. We enjoyed the swimming pool, the garden and being able to bbq with our travelling companions. A lovely welcome hamper awaited and that helped out with breakfast, afternoon tea... More

We had a superb time here as a family of 5. The cottage couldn't have been better from the decor, furnishings, cleanliness, welcome 'pack' to the setting. The on-site facilities are spot on and we all enjoyed the swimming pool and games room and the youngest (3) loved the kids playground. We will be back!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the heart of the Cotswolds, between Chipping Norton, Stow-on-the-Wold and Burford, Bruern Holiday Cottages are one of the few holiday rentals to welcome guests just as a hotel does - for a single night or for eight weeks, both during the week and at the weekend. Even though Bruern is self-catering, you are not expected to entirely provide for yourself on your first night, so when you arrive, there are essentials like milk, butter, eggs and sausages waiting for you, along with a few little luxuries like champagne, homemade cakes and local artisan cheese with biscuits. Twice National Winners of VisitBritain’s England for Excellence Award, and current holders of EnjoyEngland’s Gold Award for quality, Bruern Holiday Cottages set a new benchmark for self-catering when Judy Astor first started converting the properties in 1992, at one time comprising eight of the properties holding VisitBritain’s top grade awards, has compared with only 132 for the whole of the rest of Great Britain. Bruern offers the comfort and attention to detail of a good hotel, combined with the privacy, independence and space of home, amidst the civilised ease and style of English Country House living. However, there are four things that really set Bruern apart from other self-catering holiday rentals. Firstly, it is a paradise for children, with three playgrounds, a play cabin, a wendy house, who, toy cars and bicycles for every child and in every size - and above all other children. Lastly, there’s a games room with, pool, table tennis and table football, for older teens (and maybe older-than-teens), for whom the above are a little too babyish. Secondly, there is the decor, which eschews the monotonous orthodoxies of minimalism, being unashamedly English Country House style – the atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable, and all the properties have log fires, and canopied or four poster beds. Thirdly, the gardens, which are a blend of formal and informal elements, feature topiary, cutting gardens with box hedges, gazebos, little orchards, statuary, a wisteria tunnel, and a vast hundred yard herbaceous border. There is barely a square foot of the entire estate that has not been planned out with a passion for landscape and an eye for detail. In 1999 Bruern’s gardens were even awarded a marking of 100 out of 100 by VisitBritain that neither we nor anyone else has ever bettered; and nor will it ever be bettered, unless the laws of arithmetic change. Finally, there is the indoor swimming pool, gym and spa, which looks out on to a separate Italianate garden and terrace, with a classical portico to sit beneath in the shade. Cited by Tatler in 2009 as one of the “101 best spas in the world”, here you can book reflexology, massages, pedicures, manicures and facials. All in all, Bruern is a place that is simply unique – over eighty percent of our business comes from returning guests, and of new guests the majority come from personal word-of-mouth recommendations. We haven’t had a review score on TripAdvisor of less than 5/5 (Excellent) in 3 years – if you read the reviews, you’ll see why. ... more   less
