Just like to say that my wife and I recently had Sunday lunch at the Crown, the food quality and quantity for the price far outweighed expectations. Linda and her staff made us welcome. Excellent value for money
I visited with my now husband having had a trip here while still students some 3 years ago. We’ve regularly reminisced about the heavily patterned carpets, chintz curtains and lovely little swimming pool. First the positives: the carpets are still hilarious and the curtains present, if a little more stained. Downside: no breakfasts, no pool - weirdly they feel able to serve dinner but not breakfasts and then blame Covid. Our room was relatively clean - sheets yes but furniture heavily stained, tv broken, no toiletries in bathroom etc. Overall, bit sad and tired. Not what it once was.
We booked last minute through a booking site and did not read the reviews. We arrived very early and called in to ask about parking, we was given directions to the rear of the building parked up and went to explore the town. We returned to get our room key and was directed to a ground floor room through the bar area. On entering we immediately disappointed with the state of the dated room, the bathroom looked like it had been recently refurbed but the rest was very poor. We decided not to complain because for a couple of nights it was tolerable. We ate out that evening and returned about 10.00pm for a night cap and found the bar was full of the locals who mostly seemed intoxicated. Drinks were served promptly but in strange glasses, Baileys in a wine glass Guinness in a lager glass you get the drift. On a good point the drinks were very cheap and the round never came to the same amount. We went to bed but found out we had probably been roomed in the staff living area as the room next door seemed to fill up late on with the sounds of lots of loud talking and music being played, I banged on the wall a couple of times and it quietened down about 2.00am. Breakfast was left on a tray at the door sometime in the night and compromised of 2 cartons of fruit juice a couple of Danish pastries bread rolls jam and butter. We left it untouched. We ate in the restaurant the 2nd night which wasn't bad. Bed time was the same the 2nd night with our noisey neighbours. Overall We wouldn't recommend the hotel if your planning a stay in the area there seemed to be better and less expensive around. …
We spent one night at the crown and cushion on 1st November and our room for the evening was number 23. We parked in the rear car park and walked through the extremely tatty decking area, we found discarded covid face masks, plastic and other rubbish dotted around. We entered and our hearts dropped as internally the place looked rather tired. The receptionist told us the buffet breakfast was off for obvious reasons and we would get something delivered to our room. We had not been in our room an hour when somebody attempted to enter after knocking. As I opened the door, I noticed tomorrow mornings breakfast on the floor....this turned up at 6.20 pm.....and was extremely laughable. We received a small carton of orange each,a pear and a croissant each.....with jam. As for the room, we could not fault it, large, spacious, clean and had all the amenities required. Our trip to our room allowed us to pass several bags of rubbish in the corridors. We visited the bar area which had bags of character and the food which passed us looked very nice. This hotel needs some investment and a good tidy up.....our room warranted the 3 circled mark.....staff trying to enter the room and the tatty rubbish around does not. Breakfast was comical I must add. Nice room nice staff......not much else to say really. Visited 1st November 2020.…
We lasted 10 minutes in this place. Do NOT waste your time booking it. Our room was filthy, crumbs in the drawers of the dressing table, broken wires, broken heater, hair in the shower, broken shower door, grime & dust galore! After politely asking for our room to be cleaned, I was shown two other rooms instead which were even dirtier! It even had left over shampoo bottles from the previous person. It is just not what you want especially in a pandemic! The manager did say he would get the staff to clean it again once we were out but we ended up booking else where & the manager was quick to give us a refund. The Lesson learnt here is to read and trust previous reviews.
