The Crown and Cushion's website promises that "elegance and class, relaxation and comfort are all to be expected". None of these qualities is in evidence. The rooms were tired, shabby and freezing cold. They failed to provide an accessible room as requested. The staff were rude and unhelpful. The manager failed to meet us as promised to resolve our dispute. We went elsewhere though they had already taken payment. We complained in writing later but we weren't surprised when that was ignored. They ask for payment in advance, so be careful. Altogether, it's best to stay elsewhere, certainly if you're planning to stay in the winter.

Our friend, my husband and I stayed at this place for a night yesterday on route back home from our Wales holiday last night. The twin room we stayed was Room 16. Our friend was in Room 24. We checked in on a rainy early evening so the light of the room was on the dark side. I helped our elderly friend to his room and saw brown stain on the edge of the shower curtain in his room. I did recognise there was no WiFi in both of our rooms and one of the cup saucers was dirty in our room . That wasn't a big issue although it should have been better. However, when I went to bed around 9.30pm I recognised my bed didn't have a mattress cover at all. So, my husband went to reception to ask for a spared sheet so that I feel more comfortable to sleep on an extra layer. We both slept OK. Once I woke up in the morning with brighter light, I saw part of my husband's bed quilt slided out of the cover on his bed. I immediately spotted the quilt inside the cover was seriously dirty with black dots and big patches of brown stain. The quilt hasn't been washed for ages. It was worn out and grey in colour. It should have been thrown away. I went to the reception before breakfast to complain about it. The lady did apologise and said that was not acceptable. She said she would put a note to the housekeeping. The point is they shouldn't put the soiled old quilt on any beds at all. That was absolutely disgusting what that did to their guests. I seldom took pictures of this sort and posted them before but really feel strongly I should warn fellow guests staying here to double check everything before they sleep on their beds. Please beware this place's cleanliness is certainly not of UK standard. I can't comment on the breakfast as I was off putting by the dirty quilt and didn't have appetite for the breakfast. Chipping Norton is a nice town but our recommendation is find somewhere else clean to stay but not this one.

On arrival found car park at rear of hotel and went to reception to check in. Too early so had to come back in an hours time. When we checked in was told £20 more than web site or phone quote. Once questioned as to why, got a oh no and charged original quote. Got room key, given a pointed direction from reception, over there second floor. Had to carry bags up small flights of stairs through 2 fire doors to arrive at a double bedroom with ensuite. Very drab old appearance to carpet, furniture and bathroom. No hand soap, noisy fan in ensuite, and poor lighting Not at all inviting but cheap for its location.

I had better hope for staying at this hotel for a business conference that was going to be held in the area but everything I have experienced was a let down from the front desk guy to the room (specially the room!) and food served. I wouldn’t have to explain further but Just look at the photos. For £74 a night this was unacceptable. I didn’t mind as I was tired after my flight and the last thing I’d want to do was drag my suitcase around the village looking for another place. But never again.
