What a mixed bag! We stayed in Room 106, very large and with a huge bathroom. Sheets and towels were clean, but the duvet cover and bedspread both had holes. One section of the wardrobe could not be opened because of proximity to a bedside table, and the kettle was plugged into an extension cord hanging off the mantelpiece. Staff were a mixture of very helpful and working hard to do what we needed, and those who appeared not to be bothered, we should just get on with it. The food for the wedding breakfast and buffet was excellent, not a single fault. However morning breakfast for hotel guests was not ready at the times stated, "hot" food on offer was only lukewarm at best, and no choice of eggs or anything apart from what was put out as a buffet. This was not what we would expect for £180 per night.

First impressions aren’t great. The hotel is approached by a road you wouldn’t want to go down after dark, so hardly a grand entrance. The hotel itself looks suitably grand though. Well maintained and attractive. The grounds are very pleasant. It’s located well for most parts of Nottingham yet is still peaceful. There was nobody in reception on arrival or departure and we felt a bit lost. On departure it was not such a problem but on arrival we really didn’t know what to do. We weren’t alone, another group had been waiting before us. Eventually someone who said she wasn’t on reception staff took pity on us and sorted things out. We ate dinner here and the food was great overall, although there was a problem with dessert leading to a huge wait for most of the group who had to stare at their dessert until the final item arrived. The strangest thing was that our table for 4 was set up in the bar outside of the restaurant with the restaurant itself being practically empty. It felt very odd eating with loud drinkers only a couple of yards away. It must have felt odd to them too. We didn’t like it and it seemed totally unnecessary. The rooms were fine in an old world kind of way. Minor quibbles were: - Toilet seat wrong shape for pan - Fan in bathroom not working - The room was large so the very small TV looked even smaller. - Kettle had water in when we arrived (this has never bothered me but apparently it does some people. Breakfast was a really good buffet and we were allowed in the restaurant this time. However there were no fried eggs (pro tip: no fried eggs usually mean all food is expected to hang around for ages). Overall - OK but not great. It’s expensive and frankly not worth the money. You’d be better off using the excellent Nottingham Premier Inns.

Zero acknowledgement when we arrived to check in. Card payment machine placed on counter without any explanation. Not full info given I.e. checkout time, WiFi, etc. We were told that as we wanted to have our dinner in our room we ought to order immediately and a menu was pushed in our direction. The urgency was due to a table of 21 people that had a reservation at 7.30pm (this was a booking where all 21 had preordered their meal choices as they were part of the wedding group we were there for) this was 2hrs before the booking so we couldn't understand why the rush to choose, though we did and then we were told no, go use the app using the QR code when in your room! Given 1 room key card to share which as it is needed for the lighting to work left one of us in the dark as with the window shutters open there was no privacy at all. Room was large but we soon realised the cleanliness was poor from easy to see cobwebs to nasty stains on the mattress that had a topper a size too small for the mattress. We were disgusted to see the many stains and the lack of a mattress protector!. In the wardrobe there is a sign saying not to take the bathrobes, however this sign was behind empty hangers meaning someone else had ignored said sign. My partner is disabled and suffers with severe back pain, she uses an ice pack daily to reduce pain and spasms. I asked the trainee on reception to place the ice pack in one of their freezers, we were outraged when we were told that the manager had said no as there wasn't room! I refused to accept that answer and insisted they make room which they eventually did, appalled I had to insist to get it done! Night 1, we quickly realised the window shutters didn't totally shut light out and there was a large gap at the bottom of the door which we had to block to have the room dark. The original windows while lovely to look at, mean all noises are very easily heard, we needed earplugs and think secondary glazing would have been a sensible expense. At our 1st of the 2 breakfasts there was a milk problem so we were given 3 tiny pods for our 2 coffees and by the time I had finished painstakingly adding milk to the cornflakes they had gone soft. As there are supermarkets locally we couldn't believe this was how they operate! For a 4 star hotel to have no menu to select from ensuring all guests have what they want and it be fresh and made to order was very disappointing to be left with a tepid buffet. After breakfast we requested an iron and ironing board to use in our room, over an hour later I had to go back down to ask again as there is no phone in the room, in fact room luxuries were nonexistent, the sign in the bathroom saying to ask at reception if you want bubble bath to save wasted plastic is nonsense and clearly to save money only. On day 2, the wedding day we popped back to our room in the afternoon to find our room door had been left locked open by the housekeeping team and as we went in we heard a noise which we thought meant the housekeeping people were still in the room which would have explained the unlocked door however the noise was a desk fan left on full blast. Later the lovely now newlyweds had a cake that was many types of cheeses, for which I had made 32 jars of various Chutneysfor each table. As it was being served to each table, we stepped out to use the ladies and had a quick smoke, we had been out of the room for just 9 or 10 minutes, when we got back we found the cheese being taken away!! Having worked hard to make them I was very offended that it was given so little time. The cheeses and Chutneys were relocated to the adjoining room where later the evening buffet would be placed. I sat with some cheese and Chutney and was horrified to watch 2 staff members picking up and moving cheese to amalgamate to fewer boards... with their bare hands! NO GLOVES which is both unsanitary and a massive covid risk. Overall the experience was more like 2 stars and the majority of the customer service was either rude or lacking

Checked in after having booked for a family wedding 2 years ago and this is the room we was actually given. If partner wasn't doing the hair for the wedding I would have cancelled and book a travel lodge. I feel robbed

Hosted a fantastic event for supporters for approx. 30 guests and had a fantastic experience. Naomi was a huge help in getting everything set up in advance and on the day the team were very accommodating. Pramod and Georgia were on hand all day to support and they were well prepared, efficient and so welcoming! Big thank you from Rhiannon and the Alzheimer's Society legacy team.
