Arrival; great, nice welcome, very informative. Superior Room; Clean, big bathroom, big and comfortable bed, poor WiFi, no facility to use your own streaming device (probably because of weak WiFi), no cups, one towel for two people, no hotel pack i.e. numbers to call etc. Dinner at Brasserie; booked for 8.30, arrived at 8.25 and told table not ready and could we wait. Waited until 9.30, no drinks offered. In the end, spoke to Maitre D and went back to room. Rang reception to complain, no answer Breakfast; booked for 9.15, arrived at 9.10 to find a queue stretching back to main entrance. At 9.25, people started being let in, obviously everyone wants coffee and cooked breakfast so immediate long queues. Overall; very poor. I understand the privations that COVID imposes but more thought and focus on the detail is needed.

A delegate at a meeting not a hotel guest - I arrived an hour early. No one on reception, no signs as to where I should or shouldn't go so I settled down in a quiet area. Then moved on by someone and told I shouldn't be there.. but how does anyone know if there are no signs or indications or people to assist. I don't like being harangued to move out of the way. I know its all very difficult but you could help your guests so they don't feel like non-entities in a place they shouldn't be. Think about what you have in place and where you want people to go or not go. Make it clear. People comply but its really hard if we are supposed to guess by telepathy.

Spacious room and lovely big bathroom with spacious walk in shower. Great location In the middle of the university park. Friendly staff. But.... Only one towel provided for the two of us and a request for a second was ignored. Only 3 tea bags for 2 people for 3 nights. Paper cups! Just two.... Room service only provided if you are staying 4 nights or more so nothing was getting topped up. Sanitiser outside the lift on our floor ran out and 24 hours later was still empty. Breakfast was a pretty poor paper bag of food left outside the door in the morning. We’ve stayed in several hotels since Covid and this hotel and this hotel has made a very poor effort at adapting. And of course no reduction on the bill for the reduced service and breakfast - this was booked before lockdown.

We have stayed at this hotel many times, but the service we received by one young lady, who served us in the bar, found seating for us in the restaurant, kept us updated when our food was delayed and finally served our meal was just outstanding! Unfortunately, I did not take the name down of the young black lady, who looked after us so very well, but I hope she is recognised for the wonderful service we received on the evening of the 4th September :) Thank you :) we will be back!
