Easy to find, clean, great staff and good food. Stayed a night before an interview had one of the rooms with an entrance off the garden. Great room and reasonably priced would stay again. Free parking .

After driving through stunning scenery we found the Stags Head. Highly recommend this public house. Great atmosphere and extensive menu. Very competitive prices. The food was superb and well presented. In calm and relaxed environment we were able to enjoy our meals. Staff very friendly but unobtrusive. Plenty of parking with extensive gardens at rear. Highly recommend this as could... More

We stayed three nights, loved the ambiance and the excellent services provided by owners], Rob, and his main barman, Simon, plus the other staff. We were lucky enough to arrive a Sunday afternoon when a couple of musicians were playing. Very relaxing. It was the extras - like a load of washing done - plus the excellent hot breakfast, put... Joy and I would like to thank all the staff at the Stag's Head for a truly wonderful weekend, and in particular Penny, for looking after us so well, Des the master chef for his fantastic cuisine, and Rob the landlord for making us feel so welcome. Our room was neat, clean and warm with plenty of storage space, as... More

We enjoyed a warm friendly welcome this evening. The Stags Head was very easy to find, lots of parking, happy atmosphere, cosy surroundings. Excellent service from attentive waitresses. Menu was a little on the chippy side so I chose a salad. Everyone in my party was pleased with portion size. I felt the menu could be a little more nutrition... More

Spent a couple of nights here October 2015 and would not go back. Located in the lovely village of Maidwell. The Stags Head looks lovely from the outside, and its a pity that's where I didn't stay to appreciate it. The inside is tired and dated. Not in an old fashioned English Country pub way, just needs a revamp. The... More

Thanks for your detailed summary of your stay. Unfortunately as the owner is disappoints me to hear of your concerns, assumptions and comments. The building dates from 1766 and we are limited what we can do with it. As a tenant, brewery support is nil so it all comes out of the profits. We are in transition after a 13... More

A typical old pub/inn. Good real ale and a specials meal board that looked good but disappointed. Malaysian beef curry was tough and almost uneatable, and profiteroles at £1 each or £4.50 for a rubber bread cheese sandwich was pushing it.

Thanks for your review Howard. I am disappointed you couldnt discuss your negative points personally. As our new chef settles in, we will get our food better and all feedback is taken positively. More

Recently spent a weekend at The Stags Head in Maidwell. Arrived on Friday evening with some friends. Enjoyed an excellent meal in the bar followed by some fine brandy. Stopped here randomly for a plate, and it turned out to be beer festival night. Food is really good value, with loads for your money. Staff friendly but at times I was half expecting Alan Partridge to walk in through the front door, quite eclectic atmosphere - aha! Go along and you'll see what I mean.
