During my recent first trip to England I stayed in many excellent B & Bs, but this was probably my favorite. Di is a wonderful host and person, the breakfasts were excellent with many choices available, the room was roomy, beautiful, quiet, clean and comfortable, and the bathroom roomy and clean. I had a nice view of the garden. The...

We stayed for 1 night whilst on a cycling holiday. The bikes were stored in a locked garage. The room was very comfortable and I really liked having a bookcase of books in the room. Di makes a lovely breakfast. We ate with the other guest in the kitchen/dinner whilst Di prepared our various breakfasts. I loved the arrangement as...

I would have to concur with the majority about this establishment :-) cheap, cheerful, clean, quirky, local to York city centre, and above all exemplary provisions from its owner, Di. Will defo be staying here again the next time I'm in York.

A very comfortable welcoming B&B with excellent breakfasts. Di is a very versatile and well-informed caterer, offering a fine full English for the meat-eater and a good range of substantial vegetarian and vegan options as well. In the evening, guests select for the next morning from an extensive breakfast menu, and choose from a range of breakfast times. A lot...

Di and Paul are wonderful hosts and we enjoyed our talks with them. You can't beat the location as you can be to the walls of York in a 10 - 15 minute walk and to the Minster in about another 15 minutes. Di's breakfasts were great and she does cater to vegetarians and vegans. So, overall a great place...

What a wonderful find - a truly homely bed and breakfast. This is my third visit and I feel like I'm catching up with old friends. Everywhere is spotless, the beds are really comfortable and breakfasts are superb. I highly recommend checking out the website and don't forget to look up Hoover!

We've stopped here 3 times and Di treats us as old friends rather than paying guests. The Alternative B&B is really homely. We had an excellent breakfast. Impressed by the commitment to being environmentalally friendly. We would stay nowhere else in York.

I stayed at Di's place for 3 nights with my boyfriend and had a wonderful time. Di and her partner Paul are lovely, interesting and genuine people, and Hoover the cat was very cute and friendly. I chose Di's place because I'm vegan, and was not disappointed by her lovely vegan breakfasts and cruelty-free toiletries. The room was very comfy,...

It really is different from the norm. A friendly and homely welcome with an atmosphere that makes you feel as if you come to visit mum for a few nights, not paying to stay in a stranger's house. Comfortable room, lovely breakfast with home-made jams and honey from a beekeeper friend. Di is a vegetarian, but her sausages and bacon...

The Alternative B&B is unlike any pay-to-stay place I've been to, I really feel like I'm staying with an aunt or cousin. Many b&b's I've stayed in are either nervy, overly familiar that can come over as a bit fake or just to business.. room / breakfast/ pay and done etc. which is fine mostly as I tend to get...
