Absolutely 5* guest house. My fiance and I had 2 days, 1 night and the owners are very welcoming, friendly, helpful with places to see etc. Our room was perfect. Just what we expected and we will return later this yr.

This is one of the best B&Bs I've ever stayed in. Lovely warm innkeepers who will leave you alone or give you lots of suggestions of things to do, etc if requested. Excellent breakfast. Cozy, inviting, and very clean and quiet. I loved their porcelain collection (which was spotless). Great, comfy bed. Whenever I need a lovely place to return...

Lovely welcome and so handy for the city tourist places. Comfy rooms and delicious, fresh breakfast. Great to be able to park right outside the door, but then you don't need your car for the rest of your time in York. Highly recommended!

Stayed here for two nights in September. Great location as it was just a short walk into town to all the many attractions, pubs and restaurants. We were allowed to park across the road on a pub car park. The hosts were great and very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast was lovely served from 8-9....

I spend about 40-50 nights a year in B and Bs in York. I have a favourite, which is very good, and also works for me location wise, and an alternate which is also great if that is busy. Quite often though I have to book last minute, and that is very hit and miss. Monkgate Guest House is very...

Guest House was clean, comfortable, and convenient. We took a bus to York, and it was a short walk to the house. Host welcomed us with maps of the city and suggestions for nearby activities. Bed was comfortable and full size toiletries were provided in the bathroom. Great breakfast was provided.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Monkgate Guest House is 200 years old and is only five minutes walk from York Minster and the city centre where you will find beautiful shops and restaurants and all York's attractions close to hand. The property was originally three Georgian cottages so it is cosy and rambling with the quaint features you would expect from an older property. We have two rooms on the ground floor and the other rooms are on the first floor accessed by a flight of stairs. Our breakfast room is warm and inviting and we provide a full, freshly cooked English breakfast with eggs cooked to your requirements alongside the other menu options. We have limited off street parking in a narrow driveway at the side of the house, you will be able to forget your car then and walk to all the amenities! We can however try to arrange more parking if necessary. Free wifi is availabe in the public rooms and most bedrooms. ... more   less
