Lovely old pub with character.Room clean and decor tasteful with ensuite shower room. Room was quiet as the pub is on a main road. Very good price. City short taxi ride as we didn't walk as went to the races. Cannot comment on the breakfast as we did not stay for breakfast.

Nice cute room, friendly bar with good food. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Being only able to check at 4 was a little painful. We didn't realise when we booked and may not have booked if we'd known however an enjoyable 1 night stay.

We had a very comfortable stay here, the pub with rooms is just a ten minute walk from the city centre via the riverside walk which was lovely. The staff were all very friendly and we ate in their restaurant which offered tasty Italian food. there is also a beer garden to sit out in.

My friend and I stayed here overnight on a recent trip to York. The room we had was lovely, everything fresh and clean with lovely comfy beds. Unfortunately it fell down on service. There were very few staff available. On our return the first evening, even though it was a little late about 11pm, we tried to order breakfast but... More

I was used to small rooms while visiting the uk, so that wasn't a problem. Trying to squeeze a king sized bed in, was. A queen would have made the room more comfortable. The towels were old, thin and very small. I was surprised there was no daily room service offered, so no option of fresh towels or cups unless... More

This has to be one of the friendliest pubs in a friendly city. We were made to feel welcome by the staff and locals. Great beer and gorgeous Guinness. The food is very special also, served up by Salvo the Sardinian sorcerer or should that be saucerer! The pub itself is a gem with a bellisimo sun trap courtyard/ garden... More

Hi Brian thank you for your kind words. We are glad you enjoyed your visit to the lighthorseman and hope to see you again in the near future. We think the bar is the oldest in York as it is the original bar from when the pub was opened back in the 1860s. Regards Dan and Racheal More

This pub is a great base when staying the night in York, it's about a 10 minute walk into the city, so can't complain at the distance really. We stayed in a room with a king size bed, which was amazing. We didn't opt for breakfast we decided to walk into York for breakfast. Their car park is free which... More

When we booked, we thought that it would about run of the mill. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. What sealed it for us was that we had a medical emergency and the staff were brilliant at trying to help which included serving staff, chef and possibly the owner.

We so enjoyed staying at the Lighthorseman! Lovely little room with simple and beautiful decor. Great view of the street, and high ceilings! Just about a 10 minute walk for the town center. We walked the whole time we were there, and it was not a problem at all. The staff is very friendly and available to answer questions. This... More
