We were on a day trip to York with my family and visited the Guy Fawkes Inn on a recommendation and weren't disappointed. This is an historic Inn with a good selection of cask ales and my pints of York Centurions Ghost and Saltire Blonde were in perfect condition. The pub is lit by gas lamps which is great atmosphere... Had no idea Guy Fawkes was born in York, let alone in this pub. Plenty of intersting plaques to read through whilst you sup on a nice pint. Has a garden out the back. I think they do food but we didn't eat.

To be at the physical birthplace of Guy Fawkes, the modern day face of Anonymous, is itself a privilege and a treat. To imbibe a pint of Boltmaker with a steak pie is another. What a place. The menu is brief, but the food is topnotch. My steak pie was outstanding, whilst the haloumi with grape salad was inspired. So... More

We visit York regularly throughout the year and have done so for the past 8 years. Guy Fawkes has always been a must . We were disappointed to find all the candles and twinkling fairy lights to be no more, but nothing could prepare us for what was to happen next. The gentleman sitting next to us dog was sick... We took our small dog with us and there was no problem. The 'fish finger sandwich ' was delicious. The ghost ale my husband had was also very good. It is opposite the Cathedral so great view from the Windows . Guy Fawkes was born here apparently 😃

Stayed in 2015, enjoyed it , quirky pub, had character and was clean ,in all locations. Returned this week, very grimy, the hotel bars and dining room very dirty, I know it is dark to add to character of the pub, but i could have happily took a bottle of bleach and gave it a good scrub. Rooms were clean... More

This was to be a special three night birthday treat because of the Inn's reputed historic connection. However it was ruined by the experience of staying here. The room was dirty, the bed linen was stained, the tiles were cracked in the en-suite bathroom, and the wardrobe so dusty inside that we couldn't hang our clothes inside. Our inclination would... After a local recommendation we can see why locals love this gem of a place. With a warm welcome, super efficient service (and these guys really worked hard) and fabulous surroundings we were thoroughly spoiled by the amazing quality of the food...so delicious. We will most definitely visiting again and recommending this wonderful asset to York, to everyone. Thank you... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Guy Fawkes Inn stands next to York Minster and was the birthplace of the notorious plotter, Guy Fawkes. The Inn offers 4-star rooms with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and home-cooked, AA Rosette food. Decorate with antique furniture and Italian fabrics, the rooms feature handmade beds, tea/coffee making facilities and bathrooms with complimentary toiletries from H2K of Harrogate. Many rooms have views of York Minster, the city or the courtyard towards the rear of the Inn where Guy Fawkes was born. The Guy Fawkes Inn retains many original features including the timber staircase, gas lighting and real log fires. Dine by candlelight in the Inn's restaurant, which serves traditional pub-food using locally sourced ingredients. The bar stocks a wide range of real ales and a broad selection of wines.
