My husband and I have just experienced the great privilege of having stayed 2 nights at this magnificent hotel. Nestled behind, and in view of the York Minster, this historical building was, fairly recently, turned into a small hotel for those folk who recognise class and who want to experience something special for a short time in their lives. Wow,... More

A beautiful Hotel in the heart of York in a quiet setting close to the Minster and the town centre. We stayed in the Edwards room which was wonderful. Fantastic restaurant, bar, library, garden and all round ambience. We cant wait to return.

This is a unique tripadvisor review for me as I have never actually stayed overnight at Grays Court but experienced its individual charm and magnetism for over four years as a student at St John's College in the late 1970s. I returned yesterday after over 35 years and, after previous attempts to enter a building which had become run down... More

What a wonderful review, and one that cements our decisions to take on Grays Court back in 2005. It has been a huge project but very much a labour of love transforming it into what we have today, and I'm so happy that you were able to revisit such a significant part of your past, and that you feel we've... Forty years since we met during freshers week in York we rediscovered this beautiful place ...and I slept even better than I used to in Theology seminars here ....lovely staff good breakfast and a splendid evening meal My only fret was a distinct fishy smell from the kitchen in our bathroom after the do in the long gallery

Thank you for your feedback and I'm so happy that you enjoyed your trip down memory lane. I'm sorry that you were able to pick up on the kitchen outgoings - it was rather a fish-orientated menu that night if I recall! Best wishes, Helen More

I've visited on a number of occasions with friends for drinks. The interior of the hotel has a lot of charm and character. Sitting out in their beautiful gardens on a summer afternoon is highly recommended. Staff are friendly and attentive. I have to admit that food and drink prices are not the cheapest in York but well worth it... More

We got married here in August 2016. It was a fantastic day, everything ran very smoothly and Rhiannon and her team were very organised, efficient, friendly and accommodating to our wishes for our big day. The food at our wedding was excellently prepared, the wine selection also good, and all overnight guests are treated to tea and scones on arrival... More

Thank you very much for your feedback. We value it very highly, particular with regards to the hotel rooms as we do not get much chance to stay in them ourselves! I'll make a note to our workmen re signal in the rooms. Other than that I'm delighted that you enjoyed your day with us, and thank you for choosing... More

After watching the Storyville documentary, a visit was a must! I've been really intrigued by this very personal documentary that shows a new entrepreneur take on such a huge project. Each little things added or shaped is very personal to Grays Court and I'm glad to be part of this success. Staff are polite, hardworking and passionate, offer a complimentary... More

Wonderful experience in this gorgeous hotel. Staff very polite and helpful. Great overview of property as well as welcome drink or tea either inside or in the great outdoor area, which is a wonderful open landscaped space with numerous tables. We had a new room overlooking the Minster, which was quiet and private. We had breakfast which was very good... More

My wife, daughter and I visited the restaurant for dinner (i.e. Tea if you are a Northerner, not lunch). We were not residents so cannot comment on the rooms or any other aspect of the hotel. We sat outside initially in the garden for a drink. Great surroundings. Peaceful and tranquil. The meal was well presented, tasty and reasonable value.... More

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit to our lovely garden. With regards to the service charge, we do ask staff to make it clear that this can be taken off but I appreciate that it is a matter of debate for many. Best wishes, Helen More

This is a lovingly restored historic house with modern, stylish rooms in an old, gothic city. It has a great location right next to the Minster. It's convenient to explore the city. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We wish we could have stayed longer!
