Never miss the chance to call In here, very friendly and atmospheric, live music and jamming nights just add to the top quality and many reasons why this pub is a must visit. One of Yorks finest, can't find fault, Love the place, give it a try you won't be disappointed !!

Four of us eating Sunday lunch and food arrived absolutely stone cold, carrots, peas, mash and even the beef was all cold. Plates were taken away and within a few minutes food was returned, can only assume they were microwaved which then meant the beef was tougher than my shoe. It wasn't edible and we left most of it. Only... More

Just visited for lunch. Ordered fish and chips with onion rings. The fish was cooked with the skin on, I know some people may not bother about that, but it puts me off eating it. I asked for the skin off, but the answer I received was we only cook it with the skin on. The chips were very bland,... More

Always make a bee-line for this pub. Beer is excellent (Theakstons OP is a must) and the food comes in BIG portions Don't be put off by the small entrance and top bar.....There's a bigger one through the back together with an excellent beer garden (a real hidden gem of a suntrap). Bar staff are very good at making you... More

We got to the door, three of us got in, my partner and his friend slightly behind were turned away because he was 'too... More

Good food and drink, along side a nice welcoming atmosphere. The pub has a long rooted history in york, which is shown by the very interesting but fun ghost walk which starts from the pub on a night. Both the pub and the ghost walk are a definite must visit to anyone thinking of going to York.

Whilst in York we decided to have a meal here. You order at the bar and they bring it to the table when ready. I ordered the veggie burger which comprised of 2 burgers in ciabatta bread, chunky chips and salad. The food was fantastic and there was lots, so much in fact I couldn't eat it all, you really do... We love coming here for food. This place holds the very essence that is in York's history. Inside just has the warmest and welcoming atmosphere, staff and even furniture you could ask for in a place that is considered famous for it ghostly background. We recently heard people complaining of the sloped floor inside, but to us, that just adds... More
