Ascot House garners praise for its impeccable cleanliness and charming atmosphere that marries historical elegance with modern comfort. The hotel's professional staff is often lauded for their friendly and helpful service, contributing to a value-for-money experience. While the amenities generally meet guests' expectations, with particularly comfortable beds and modern bathrooms, a handful of visitors suggest that the in-room offerings and heating could be enhanced. Despite minor criticisms, the overall sentiment among travelers is one of satisfaction with the cozy and well-appointed accommodations.

This was our first stay here but it won't be the last.

Everything was just right for us. Parking on site. Room had everything we needed and was very clean. Bathroom was a really good size. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice and everything cooked to order.

We also loved the lounge to sit in the evening, and for a very reasonable charge you can order a tray of tea and coffee

Location was perfect. Less than15 minute walk into the centre.

Looking forward to coming back.

From my initial telephone enquiry to check out after only a one night stay, Ascot House exceeded all expectations of a small guest house. On calling to seek a reservation, the proprietor assured me that there would be no difficulty in parking my car before check in time. The staff member I told on arrival that my car was in the car park was helpful, allowing registration and giving me the room key three hours before we should have checked in. On our return later, the proprietor talked us through the breakfast arrangements on account of Covid19 and recommended places to eat that evening. The room and bed were scrupulously clean and comfortable and breakfast the next morning was delicious and served by a friendly waitress who took an interest in the exhibition we had visited York to see. On checking out, the proprietor again agreed that we could leave the car in the car park until later as we wanted to have another walk into the city and, as we put our luggage into the car, the breakfast waitress admired our car. A memorable experience which we will almost certainly repeat. Thank you to everyone at Ascot House. You were wonderful.

Stayed for one night in July 2021. The room was clean, bed comfortable, roomy shower. The staff were all very friendly and the breakfast was good. Off road parking behind the property, which was very handy. It takes around 15 mins to walk to the Minster. The pricing was very fair for the location, especially given the time of year in peak holiday season. There was also a fan in the room, which was very welcome, on a 30C weekend!

On arrival we were welcomed by June who is a lovely, friendly host and we stayed in room 12 with our two labradors . We were very impressed with the quality of the furnishings, the really comfortable bed and large walk in shower with plenty of hot water. Breakfast was a great start to the day with fresh orange juice, cereals, croissants with ham & cheese followed by a full English. The service by Lisa was impecabe and she spent time chatting with us whist observing safe social distancing. Hand sanitisers throughout the premises and safety visors worn by the staff re assured us as to the high standards of safety being operated at Ascot House. This is a fabulous B&B to choose when visiting York, and ideal for anyone with dogs as their is a grass park right outside. Would definitely stay her again

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in June, this was our second stay the first being approximately 17 years ago, I originally lost their contact details and I can assure you this will not happen again. The lady who own the business has been here for 33 years and she is most helpful. The rooms are immaculate and the bed was so comfortable, normally I struggle to sleep but I am shocked that I had at least 9 hours of sleep each night.
The breakfasts are excellent and well cooked and the ladies in the dining room are so efficient.
We will certainly be staying again.

My friend and I came away for a child free night and to enjoy York. We enjoyed York but not this hotel one bit.

This place was nowhere near city centre and was quite a walk so bear this in mind. It wasn't worth the price at all.

This was a very old fashioned building and we were put in the room right next to reception. Barely any space in this twin room however the bathroom was pretty modern.

We could hear every single conversation and check in taking place due to the poor location of this room. The door wouldn't shut properly unless we locked it with the key. So to keep locking and unlocking the door was annoying. The shower was also making a hell of a noise when on.

The most frustrating part was being woken at 0650 by a bunch of guests joining the owner of the building having loud conversations and laughing in the breakfast room right next to us. We made it clear were trying to have a lie in but this was completely ignored. So zero sleep.

We got up and went for "award winning" hyped up breakfast that we can only describe as basic and expected? Nothing special?

When we checked out the owner dismissed our feedback of the loud early morning wake up saying "it wasn't 0630,it was 0730"....that's OK then I guess (even though it was untrue as I went out to make it clear we were trying to sleep at 0710). No apologies. Nothing. Wouldn't stay again. Absolutely not worth the money.

The beds were comfortable. Our room was bright and airy with tea, coffee and chocolate making facilities. There is a cosy lounge to relax in. Breakfast was tasty and served by friendly and helpful staff. The only negative point is that they didn't have any fresh lemons (I don't drink tea or coffee and like hot water with slices of lemon in the morning), but they did have herbal teas available. The house is on a main-ish road but is quite quiet considering. Our room was at the front of the house and we were able to have the window open without being disturbed.
I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast and if I return to York, would book here again.

We recently spent a couple of nights here, the staff were very kind and helpful, the room we stayed in was lovely with a very modern and large bathroom. The breakfast was plentiful with locally sourced ingredients which was cooked and served with a smile, there was decent parking at the hotel and its location was approx 10/15 minutes' walk into the Centre of York, on a rainy day we had a short journey out to the local designer village which was really good with plenty of good shops. York was lit up ready for Xmas and was lovely in the early evening with plenty of Xmas booths in the main square.
Overall, we had a great 3 days and would definitely return and stay at this hotel in the future

Ascot house is immaculate with friendly service. We had a triple room for two nights which was very comfortable. We all enjoyed breakfast and by the end of our trip we’d decided to return next year.
It is a 20 mins walk into York and there’s a co-op with free cash machine dispenser opposite. The free parking is an added attraction to this property.
It is a traditional style B&B but our bathroom was modern with a very good shower.
Looking forward to our return stay.

We booked last minute to stay at Ascot House Hotel & we're really pleased we did. It's such a beautiful old building with gorgeous features such as stained glass windows & ceiling roses. It could easily feel old-fashioned & yet it avoids this & feels classy & elegant. The dark wood furniture gleams, everything is spotless. Our room was on the top floor, the stairs are really steep so it wouldn't be great for anyone with access difficulties, but there are rooms on the ground floor too. The room was beautiful with 2 very comfortable beds & an airy, modern bathroom. Breakfast was delicious with an excellent choice of foods. All in all this is definitely one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in & also very reasonably priced compared to other hotels in York including places such as Premier Inn & Travelodge.
