I recently stayed for a couple of days, The hotel was located just behind the railway station. The hotel charged £2 pound per day to park directly outside of the hotel during your stay which is cheap compared to everywhere else around York. Room was fairly small but bed was comfortable. They provide a full English breakfast and cereals etc... More

Very handy to the station and to central York and the Cathedral. Parking is £2 per day just outside the house, so no quibbles with that. Rooms are small, the decor is very tired, but the bed was comfortable, everything clean. Breakfast is in a small dining room, and it was one of the best full English we've had in... More

We were on an anniversary trip in York and I didn't actually plan to stay in a guesthouse, but had some trouble finding a hotel room in our budget as apparently there were some sort of races in town the same weekend. So we ended up in Sycamore and actually I'm glad we did as I've never stayed in a... More

We had a great stay with Elisabeth and Spyros! They were welcoming and helpful - lovely hosts. The bathroom in our room was tiny but other than that a charming and nice room with a comfy bed. The breakfast was good and served in a cozy dining room.

My wife and I were invited to inspect our room before we decided to book. We were deciding whether to take the room (everything was very old and tired looking) when the owner started ranting and raving about how we were wasting his time and we should call him when we find another room and told us to leave. We... More

These reviewers DID NOT STAY at The Sycamore. They were only interested in accommodation if they were offered a heavy discount on the tariff. Should a B&B owner find anyone objectionable, for whatever reason, it is his prerogative to refuse them accommodation, even to those potential guests who turn up at his home without pre-booking. With regret, l must insist... More

A great location for walking into York and a bonus being able to park the car right outside although we were not informed until leaving that there was a £2.00 a day charge. Breakfast was very nice and our room clean despite the fact it was small and cluttered and not what i would call a double room. The bathroom... More

Built in 1904 and rated as a 4 star guesthouse, I cannot find a single reason why it is 4 stars. Looking from a star perspective… 1. Historical building but take heed…. The house looks like has not been updated since it was built. Allergy sufferers, beware!!! Rooms were very disappointing as old, 60-70 year old wallpaper (maybe older) is... More

An ideal guest house perfectly situated to the main attractions in York, with a lovely walk through the museum gardens, or along the river bank to get to the centre. The hosts of the guest house are very friendly, helpful, obliging, and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and tidy with an enormous double bed, and the en-suite... More

It was quite difficult to do this review as there were many positives to this place and clearly York is struggling to get back on it's feet after the winter floods so business is hard. However I have to give a mixed review for the Sycamore. We arrived and received a really warm friendly welcome from Spyros, who was a... More
