My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the St Denys in May 2016. The staff were super hosts, the accommodation updated and clean/spiffy, with a side garden for tea or other refreshments. Breakfasts were great as was the service. Overall experience at this modest & understated hotel, was simply first rate. - Dale (Vancouver)

I booked to stay at the St Denys Hotel after reading the excellent TripAdvisor reviews. I emailed the hotel a month or so ago asking for a quiet room. Very quickly I had a lovely personal email reply stating the hotel is situated on a pretty quiet street (it is) but that we'd be given a rear room as these...

We stayed here for 3 nights so that we could explore York. This hotel is a perfect place to do just that, as it is so central that everywhere you really want to go is pretty readily accessible. There are lovely restaurants and bars within walking distance and access to both the walls and shops are close by. The hotel...

We decided on this hotel for a 2 night stay when attending a friends wedding, we could have stayed at the wedding location - a much larger and allegedly plusher establishment - but plumped for the St Denys on the basis of all the tripadvisor reviews...we were not disappointed.. We booked the Grand room, but were only able to have...

We stayed at this quirky independent hotel for two nights. It's central location was perfect for exploring York on foot. Everything about the hotel is fantastic. Owned by two sisters who work within the hotel and an attentive team they create a great homely atmosphere. The personal touches were fab...home made soaps in the bathroom, umbrellas and reading glasses at...

First off, apologies for taking nearly a year to write a review! The St Denys is an absolute gem of a place, and we loved our 3 night stay here-fabulous staff, lovely rooms (especially liked the hallway fridge for proper milk), brilliant breakfasts and a great location. We will definitely visit again!

Booked from other trip advisor recommendations and really cant add much more than has already been said ,the girls who run the hotel are so modest and nothing is too much trouble ,it really is a home from home atmosphere, little touches like handy umbrellas and pairs of reading glasses at the reception desk ,a cosy lounge ,milk in upstairs...

Extremely helpful staff, that's what really matters. The room was modest size but quite clean and comfortable. Walk anywhere within minutes and enjoy the York town! They even help you park your car! Only several minutes of walk away. You have to know it's a very old town, with narrow street and alleys. And I love their breakfast very much.

We booked St Denys hotel on the strength of TripAdvisor and their ratings, and I can agree with people's opinions. First of all, the staff are excellent. Tom and Zoe work hard to make you feel welcome, and if you didn't know better, you would swear it was their hotel, the work rate they put in. Friendly, welcoming and when...

When you've stayed in such a lovely place as this boutique hotel is, you almost feel like not writing a review and keeping it to yourself. However, because it was so good I feel other people deserve to know about it in order to enable them to sample it for themselves. The good experience started from the moment of booking:...
