The Grand has the friendly but discreet service, and comfortable luxury one would hope from a 5 star hotel. Excellent dinner in the lovely restaurant. Its location very good for walking to the city centre, or the station, but it was quiet at night.
What a fantastic hotel. A short walk from the train station and right by the city walls this hotel is a delight from start to finish. The service is impeccable, very warm, courteous and with great attention to detail - nothing is too much trouble. I particularly appreciated the concierge who showed me to my room telling me the history of the hotel and pointing out the original features. The room was a great size, very spacious, including a large bathroom with Milton brown products. Super comfortable bed and a fantastic nights sleep. I’d asked for a quiet room and they certainly delivered. The 1906 bar had a good selection of cocktails for pre dinner drinks and you’re only a short walk from the multitude of restaurants in the city. Breakfast was a sumptuous affair with everything you could possibly want to eat including the best croissants. I didn’t get to use the spa facilities or the cookery school which are also on site. My only wish is that I couldn’t have stayed longer.…
The Grand is really an impressive hotel, one of the nicest I have stayed in. Our room was huge, comfortable and the communal areas were well presented and opulent. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially the door staff, who were full of helpful tips to make our visit to York even better. The breakfast was good, well organised and efficient, and we had some drinks in the evening on the terrace which was great. I have to deducted a point however. It might seem like a little thing, but if people don't mention it, it won't get changed and doing the right thing for the planet is more important than having a bedside light on ready when you come into a room. The only thing that annoyed me a little was that each room had a kill switch for the lights. The idea is that you put your key card in a slot when you come into the room and all the lights come on, when you leave the room you are forced to take your card out and all the lights go off. Perfect - saving energy will help us reduce our negative impact on the environment.... only a blank card had been placed into this kill switch meaning all this good work was undone and our room lights were wastefully on all the time. To make matters worse, we turned the lights off when we went out, but came back to the room in the evening to find the turn down service had turned the lights on again, such a waste of electricity. Clearly at some point The Grand realised that installing these switches was good for the environment. I don't know what could have made them decide to abandon it and force the lights into staying on.…
We love the Grand. Have visited several times. Luxurious and pampered is how we always feel. There was a problem with the room being cold but even this didn't really detract from the visit. Two people stood out - Ned and Wayne. Ned was outstanding in the restaurant - a real asset to the hotel. Wayne as a concierge was a marvel. Great food and great service . We will be back.
4 stars are for the amazing staff, we came for afternoon tea it was nice but I did tell them about food allergens when booking and again when there, to get the said sandwich next to sandwich without fish I only got cream cheese & cucumber and egg mayo sandwich as everything else had fish in it, I’m pretty sure there was supposed to be beef too, went the following night for evening meal it was ok again staff amazing , was going to book for my 50th this year with all the family for a couple of nights.
A Lovely hotel in a great location. All the staff were extremely friendly and they couldn’t do enough to help. Breakfast and Afternoon Tea was Amazing. An NCP car park is just a 2 minute walk from the hotel so really handy for parking.
Just returned from a lovely stay in the Grand Hotel York. The hotel was beautiful, all staff were professional at all times and couldn’t do enough for us from the reception staff to the bar staff and concierge services. We will certainly be back for another stay soon.
An excellent and Eloquent place to stay. From very helpful concierge. To friendly and smiling reception staff. Shame the bars close a bit early for a night cap after seeing the town. But spacious and comfortable rooms.
The staff were very helpful and efficient. The Spa was lovely and the treatments were excellent. The restaurant had a great menu and the staff were efficient and friendly. The room had numerous issues that severely detracted from our stay; 4 star quality at best.
Staff were absolutely excellent - couldn't do enough for you. Hotel is very nice but let down by one feature - beds and pillows which were both too hard. Anyhow puttinfg that to one side, it would not stop me visiting again. York it'self if a beautiful city that I would recommend to anyone.
