A Friend and I had Sunday lunch we had Roast Sirloin with all the trimmings it was delicious. We got a worm welcome as soon as we entered the staff where very friendly and treated us like royalty. The wine was very good. The dining room as a romantic feel to it with subdued lighting there was a nice fire... More

Stayed at this hotel for a few nights, when we arrived we had a great welcome and was showed up to our attic room, Bagatelle. It was very cosy and had everything we needed. Hotel looks small from the outside but has more rooms than expected. Weather was good to say it was February when we stayed. Breakfast was amazing,... More

Our friends took us to this pub as a treat a couple of weeks ago. It is adorable inside and very cosy with a really good menu. I ordered the lobster and frites which didn't disappoint and my fellow diners had fish and chips which looked amazing and I was told that the fish tasted so fresh. The only thing... More

We really enjoyed our stay at this homey place. The location is good, it's near the shops and just 500 meters walk to that historic castle ruin or something. The staffs were really helpful and nice! They did their best to help us. We went to Whitby on a freezing winter season, not really a good time to wander but... More

Difficult one this.... The hotel is in a great position, over the bridge on the old side of Whitby. Couldn't be better placed and there is a car park just over the road (£6 for 24 hours). The staff are helpful and the hotel is old and not at all chocolate-boxy. So far - should be brilliant ( and I... More

Had a lovely stay here last Summer. The hotel is so old and quaint the rooms have been done out since we last stayed and they are really very nice, Staff were welcoming and friendly. Can`t wait for an excuse to go again!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The White Horse & Griffin is an almost 450 year old Coaching Inn, the first built in Whitby to serve the route to London. Operating these days as a Restaurant with Rooms it is situated on an unspoilt cobbled shambles near the base of Whitby's famous 199 Abbey Steps. The building is technically on 3 floors but is actually on 7 different levels. It boasts 10 unique and quirky bedrooms full of history and character. The walls are bumpy, the stairs are narrow and the ceilings are low. The Bistro/ Restaurant is cosy and heated by an open fire. The food is outstanding with the signature dishes (such as the Seafood Meze for 2 & the Fillet Sharing Platter) saying much about the place - great quality, great quantity, designed for sharing and, as with much in life, you get what you are prepared to pay for. The WH&G is best suited to couples and groups who want to get away, eat great food, drink good wine, meet new people, join in with the atmosphere and then retire to a hand-made bed with a hand stuffed mattress to regroup before a chef-cooked breakfast. As well as a comprehensive English Breakfast choices in the morning also include Fortune's Kippers, Smoked Haddock, Kedgeree, Scrambles, Omlettes, Fresh Fruits and Honeyed Porridge. A major benefit is that the heart of unspoiled North Yorkshire and its Coast is outside the front door in either walking or steam train distance. ... more   less
