In the old part of town this place is at the bottom of the 199 steps to the Abbey. Views over the Harbour to one side and a reasonable size inside. There are quite a few real ales available as well as Craft Gins and a multitude of whiskys. There are taster platters of both whisky and gin available.

Just stayed two nights here and what a wonderful place it was. The staff are so pleasant and very helpful who offered to help us with our bags. Our room was basic but what more do you need? The bedroom was spotless and clean, the bed and pillows were so comfy. There is a iron and ironing board on the... More

Stayed one night for the wife's birthday, staff friendly, room clean and tidy with well stocked tea, coffee and other stuff. The pub does not do hot food but a nice touch was the porridge oats on offer with our tea and coffee. Had a pint of Rhatas in the bar which was reasonably priced and well kept. The bar... More

The old adage 'If it's not broke don't fix it' sums up the Black Horse in Whitby. It remains a wonderful traditional English pub with a friendly welcome and excellent beers. Every year we return to Whitby and it is our first destination and a daily, not to be missed ritual. Long live the traditional Inn.

Well kept bar with good selection of alternative beers, drinks and cocktails, the young bar man appeared very knowledgeable and works hard behind the bar and serving food. Tapas selection quite small but having tried all of the available items, they were all delicious.

I stayed here with my daughter and her friend following A levels. It's an old pub which offers accommodation and it's not the type of place I'd usually choose as I like big anonymous hotels but Whitby doesn't have any of those near the harbour. However it's wonderful. We stayed in Endeavour room and it's delightful in an old quirky... More

Great pub, selection of 3-4 well kept ales. Lots of other options for people who arent into real ale. Friendly, helpful, fun staff. It's not massive so you can't fit in big groups but fine for smaller groups. Dog friendly.

Have visited this pub a couple of times and it is always a joy. There is a cosy front bar with several real ales being available. A limited menu of food is also available. The staff are friendly and very helpful. As we only went in for drinks we cannot comment on the quality of the accommodation.
