Located close to the harbour the Black Horse is convenient for the town centre and major attractions; including Whitby Abbey (check opening times). The location has four available bedroooms, on a room only basis; though a porridge pot is made available for your delectation, if you choose. Information about selected local cafes and restaurants is made available for guests. Other... More

When in Whitby just head for the best pub for good beer and atmosphere. We always come here for drinks before lunch (at the White Horse & Griffin) and then return for drinks later. Simply one of the best pubs in Whitby with some delicious beers served well. What more can you ask?

A proper pub. Both bars are cozy, the range of drinks great and the bar man very knowledgeable and welcoming. We loved watching customers try out the snuff on sale and choose neck ties for their pooches.

Lovely comfortable pub with decent prices and a large range of different drinks, this only misses out on a five-star rating because my mother became trapped in the ladies' by a faulty lock and had to be rescued by a member of staff. Other than that, this is highly recommended!

Really enjoy coming back to this old favourite when in whitby... Traditional 'real' pub which never seems to change... been coming to whitby and this pub for over 25 years... reading some info on the pub it dates back to the 1600s and the front bar is largely unchanged since the 1880s... You walk into a smallish front bar area... More

In the old part of town this place is at the bottom of the 199 steps to the Abbey. Views over the Harbour to one side and a reasonable size inside. There are quite a few real ales available as well as Craft Gins and a multitude of whiskys. There are taster platters of both whisky and gin available.
