A friend and me were passing this hotel after enjoying the views of Whitby. After noticing the outdoor seating area it seemed the ideal place to get a drink and continue to enjoy the views. We weren't disappointed! The bar man was very friendly and attentive and the outside seating on the veranda was just what was needed to enjoy... More

Lovely Hotel, book with a sea view good idea, our room was huge, spot less, cleaned each day, tea coffee totted up. Food we found to be great lots of choice. Lovely old hotel, with modern touch . Best to book a sea view room, these are spacious and spotless, some folk didn't seem to like their standard rooms at... More

I want to give it more but I should also give it less. Four night stay with Shearings. Hotel in a lovely position with good views of bay and abbey. Had a superior room with sea view. Room clean and tidy , comfortable bed. Windows tatty as many have mentioned. Staff are lovely and very helpful. On the Thursday morning... More

We were staying for 2 nights, and we were given the superior room which we had booked, which has a lovely bay window view. However, the windows were dirty on the inside. Our bathroom was clean but there was a strange smell. We mentioned this 3 times to the staff and they called in the maintenance man, but he couldn't... More

Room ok but shower room very poor fixtures and fittings all showing signs of age. All food has been over cooked. Been out today to return to find our room has not be cleaned, no one has been in. Glad to be leaving in the morning. Car parking is expensive due to having to park on road.

We arrived at the hotel on Friday 17th June for a two night stay, together with family members including our 87 year old mother. We have stayed here previously, but it was immediately obvious that the hotel still needs some updating. The public areas are a little bit tired. Our room was clean and tidy, however, the window frame was... More

Went for a weeks break with friends through Shearings!! My toilet was unusable and had to travel 3 floors to use the public facilities in the hotel reception. My friends shower didn't work and they had to shower in a different room every morning. Food edible but not great! Most staff helpful but we were never offered a different room.... More

This hotel stands overlooking the old town and fishing port on one side and the long sweeping bay on the other. The location cannot be bettered. But the hotel itself does need a make over. The room was fine with modern furniture, comfortable and larger than most standard rooms. The en-suite had all you needed but could do with modernisation.... More

Just come back from the most extraordinary long weekend here. Shabby hotel, regimented eating times, food basic and unimaginative. Our room was clean though, but in some places sockets hanging off the wall. Threadbare carpets. Can't imagine why anyone would want to stay here. Please don't.

This is our 2nd visit to this hotel, and we were quite disappointed overall. The food was not as good as I remember last year. Pretty tasteless to be honest. The room was ok, quite spacious that looked over the car park. Last year, there was entertainment each evening, but this year for some reason there is none on Wednesday.... More
