My husband surprised me for my birthday with a weekend away to Durham at Whitby with an overnight stay at The Sporting Lodge. We had a lovely day in Durham arriving at the hotel at 5.00pm. Dinner was at 6.30pm, it was a lovely carvery. As a coach party we were all sat together which was nice. We retired to...

Stayed here one night in February. I chose the hotel as its very convenient for middlesborough centre. Overall I felt the hotel was good and offered value for money. Some of the decor was a bit tired however it was clean and comfortable. The room was a good size, restaurant was good for evening meal and breakfast. I also enjoyed...

Stayed for one night while visiting friends. The room was OK, a good size and all of the usual amenities. However, it was a bit tired (the odd paint chip, random stain etc). It was also joined to an adjacent room via a (lockable) door, through which next door's sound travelled easily in the morning. However, the bathroom was a...

Cobwebs on ceiling , stained duvets and pillows . Electrical items were last tested in 2014 so unsafe ! Bath stained and ceiling...

Stayed with a friend and met other friends attending the tribute event but who weren't staying over. The is no lift in this hotel so make sure, if necessary, you ask for a ground floor room. There appeared to be insufficient bar staff on and had to queue for quite a while each time between drinks. Rooms were clean, bright...

Had a lovely dinner on Christmas day with friends. 5 course meal which was gorgeous. Father Christmas made an appearance much to the delight of all the children there. Not rushed in any way and very good service. Enjoyed by us all.

... with our stay at the Sporting Lodge, Middlesbrough on Saturday 28th January 2017. We spent the evening in the Old Poste House Bar, had breakfast the next day and used the gym and spa facilities too. Given the negative reviews on Google and Trip Advisor we were a bit wary of booking but thought it would be worth it...

Stopped for 3 nights on business in the area. Read the mixed reviews but decided on giving it a chance. On checking in reception was a little short and not at all friendly, you have to pre authorise your credit card to eat in the restaurant and put it on your room, but once done it was ok. Now from...
