We were on a short business trip, and booked a room in another hotel. However when we arrived, our reserved room was not available due to a maintenance issue, and the other options they could offer were not suitable. So we quickly had to find another accommodation, it was Monday night, and Highfield was the closest hotel, so we tried our luck. We were lucky. The room we were initially offered was on the first floor, it was very small and very-very modest, about 1*star. It was not very appealing, but we would have coped with that, however the light in the bathroom did not work at all. We went to Reception and the lovely young lady immediately upgraded us to another room, which was located on the ground floor. This second room was absolutely gorgeous, modern, clean, smelled great, and everything was working. We were very happy, and we received this upgrade free of charge. We stayed another night, so we had to pay a bit of extra, as this room - as it turned out - is a superior room, but we were happy to pay the upgrade for a room that was so different and so much nicer. The only negative I can say about our stay is that the food in the pub is average at best. The bar is good, though, and service very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is only served until 9:30am, and they actually start clearing away the food earlier, around 9:15, so it is recommended to get up early, in case you have booked breakfast. They start serving breakfast at 7am.

Stayed over the weekend, when party in the park was on. Having stayed here before I was expecting the same standards as before although it has been quite some years, needless to say it was not the same it was worse. The Highfield looked inviting in it's self and the staff were great and very helpful but the rooms were another thing. Once you got under the quilt the bed was not as comfortable as first thought but I could deal with that. The lock on my door locked me in (standard yale lock), my husband, who was outside the door thankfully, went to get a staff member who was able to unlock the door from the outside but then shut the door when he was inside and got himself locked in, thankfully my husband was still stood ourside the room so he was able to slip the key under the door to my husband who then unlocked the door again. The staff member then went to get a screwdriver and took the lock apart then informing me that a bar in the lock had slipped and that's why I couldn't open it from the inside. He seemed to have fixed it although the next day I was locked in 2 more times, I spoke to staff about it again only to be told that someone else had had the same problem the week before..... Other than the lock on the door the electrics in my room could do with checking out, there were lights that didn't work and a lamp that didn't work not to mention the dubious wiring of the tv. The curtains allowed a lot of light to flood the room a blind would have helped the problem somewhat. As I mentiond we were there during the party in the park, we expected noise as we were above a pub, not a problem, however I rather think that some of the staff from the party in the park were also staying there as in the early hours of the morning there were people coming to their rooms and not very quietly (we saw them at breakfast with crew jackets on hence the assumption). I didn't notice any signs up asking people to recpect the peace of other guests who are trying to sleep perhaps this might help in the future as it seems to work in other hotels we have stayed at.

We stayed over a weekend during the radio 1 party in the park, so the hotel was busy and may not represent the hotel normally. Okay so radio 1 was in town and the pub was packed and noisy. Our rooms being on the first floor were also noisy until nearly 11, so if you are an early bird recommend you get a room on floor 2. The rooms we booked were the same price but one had a small double bed whilst the other had a massive super king. So the rooms were hit and miss. Lock on one room kept malfunctioning and locked our party in twice having to get staff to free them, thank God there wasn't a fire! Generally this hotel is a little run down and could do with some modernisation. One room smelt a little funky, one room had bad locks and electrics. Could have done with a good clean too. The fact that it was the only hotel with rooms this weekend says a lot about how much this has gone down hill over the years. It's a shame cause the staff were great, really friendly and helpful

Hello, due to the scale of this event we were extremely busy because of this as we are one of the closer pubs to the location of Stewarts park so unfortunately this is something we cannot help. Due to limited availibility in the hotel you may have been allocated an upgrade to a superking room, if all our doubles had already gone. Many apologies if this was an issue. The locks on the room are double barrelled meaning you are able to lock yourself in from the inside, but I can assure you that when unlucking twice over you are able to get out of the rooms. It is to my knowledge that this was explained by the staff to yoursleves. I apologise the smell in the room as this is not up to standard! This will be noted and reported to house keeping. I can also assure you that the hotel over the weekend was fully booking baring 1 night where we had 1 room available. Were glad you found the staff extremely friendly and helpful! I hope you will consider us again in the future.
