We have been staying in Premier Inn south Middlesbrough for a number of years now. It’s a very convenient location for working at the hospital and visiting family locally. The booking process is seamless and we always look forward to the staffs friendly faces and helpful banter when visiting. Unfortunately our car broke down on the journey up to Middlesbrough from home (London). I called to inform the team of our late arrival and we ended up checking in at 4:30am. Upon arrival I was quite shocked by the state (cleanliness) of the room. The carpet was unclean. There was food crumbs and clothing labels and the bathroom floor was worse. It had dead earwigs and dirt around the basin. I travel with antibacterial wipes in my handbag and wiped the bathroom floor down. The actual wipes were brown from the dirt on the floor. I then noticed 2 coke can ring pulls in the actual toilet bowl. Probably from the previous resident and the room had a beer smell to it. As if alcohol had been spilled on the floor. Given that the hotel has had to follow strict covid cleaning regulations recently, I was extremely surprised about the state of the room. It seemed like this room had not been used in a while nor was it readied for our stay. Due to the time of our arrival, the last thing that I wanted to do was complain or take pictures to show the staff. In hindsight I wish that I had, as I felt during my conversation the next day with a member of staff, I was not believed. I spoke to a member of staff about the room the next day and stipulated that our room was a little unclean and asked if the room could be cleaned as soon as its possible. I was taken a back by the response. There was no apology. I was told quiet sternly that the rooms are cleaned to a high standard due to the covid regulations. I agreed that they usually are but not on this occasion. The same staff member did knock our door a few hours later and cleaned our room. The next day the toilet water seemed to be going down slowly. I explained to the same staff member that I had to pull Coke can ring pulls out from the toilet bowl and there may have been more ring pulls in the toilet hence the flow of the water. Again the response was the same. No apology. She noted that she’ll book maintenance to check it. No pleasantries. I felt that I had clearly offended this person by raising these pointers. Which was felt by both my husband and I throughout the duration of our stay. As noted the staff have usually been kind, attentive and considerate to us.…
Excellent stay here staff was excellent really good service and very good breakfast will stay here again the Toby pub is just across from the hotel if you like a beer or two and food in the evening they are really friendly
good hotel with free car park and TOBY CARVERY on site room first class but if you want peace and quiet don't use this hotel road traffic very busy traffic noise did not quieten down until after midnight then started around 5 am
Staff here are brilliant and really helpful. Not much in the way of emergency personal products available or food other than breakfast, but staff are more than happy to help with recommendations and directions to find what you need close by.
Parking was good. Our room was quiet even though we were told that the hotel was fully booked. Reception and restaurant staff lovely. Rooms are a little tired but clean. Toby Carvery next door. Good for a nights stay.
