Stayed in mixed gender, 6 bed room with three friends. The others in the room were kind and respectful, so I felt very safe in the room.

My main issue: When we tried to check in at 3pm, we were told our room was still being cleaned and should only be ten more minutes. We asked reception again and he said that it should only be 5 more minutes. He kept checking his messages from the other staff so it was clearly not his fault, it was the miscommunication of the cleaner. It took so long for our room to be open that we left our bags in the locker room (usually ÂŁ3 but they let us use it for free). We went out for dinner and our room was finally ready once we returned.

On the bright side, the location is unbeatable, in a beautiful and peaceful park surrounded by public gardens. It's about a 12 minute walk to the nearest underground station, and from there all of London is yours. The staff, despite the initial conundrum, were all very kind and helpful.

If I had not gone with friends, I would have been a bit worried as the bed placement isn't great for privacy with two triple bunkbeds that have curtains on one side and open on the other side. I just draped my towel over the side which worked fine. Speaking of which, be sure to bring your own towel and lock or you will be charged!

Probably my biggest issue was the doors. They slammed during all hours of the night as people were coming and going in the neighbouring rooms. It doesn't take much to add some padding or even better, a hydraulic door hinge. I kept waking up due to the others around me due to the doors slamming. Other that that, I slept great, very comfy beds and pillows with the sound of a fountain just outside the window.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hostel, with the excellent price, it's definitely worth it!

Great hostel in a lovely setting in Holland Park.
We had a triple en-suite room (just what was available for two of us) on the ground floor of the newer block. Beds and bathroom fine - towels and tea/coffee etc - but only one chair in the room was a little odd.
Reception staff very friendly and helpful and breakfast definitely worth ÂŁ8 per day.
Our only problem was the noise during the night. There seems to be no soundproofing between the ground and first floors and we were awake many times during the night listening to heavy footsteps above us. .. wide awake until 5am one night. Being next to the external door didn’t help as people stood chatting outside our door.
I have another booking already here for the summer but will try to get an upstairs room or consider changing if that’s not possible.
But… we really enjoyed the park and this would be 5 stars if it wasn’t for the noise.

Great value for what I paid (ÂŁ17 per night). Beds were comfy and the complex was pleasant and felt very safe. The shower was broken in my room so they gave me a free breakfast which was very welcome. Right next to Holland Park which was lovely to walk around.

Would happily stay again.

I booked a quadruple room with an ensuite more than four months in advance, but we were downgraded to a triple room with a shared bathroom without prior notice or communication, yet we were still charged for the more expensive room. I addressed the issue promptly, but as the change was implemented by senior management, there was nothing they could do. Additionally, there was no manager present on site during our stay. We had no other options for places to go, as every other venue was fully booked because of the carnival.
Upon returning home, I immediately emailed to request a direct conversation with a manager regarding the issue, but this did not happen. Instead, he relayed messages through his reception staff and proposed a compensation of just over 20 GBP, which unfortunately does not cover the difference in the slightest. I now have to deal with the inconvenience of sorting it out directly with my bank.
This entire experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth, even though it was supposed to result in happy memories.
I would certainly not choose to stay there again, nor would I suggest it to others.
I've rated this place two stars instead of one, solely because the staff were nice and our downgraded room was clean enough for a three-night stay.

Not a great experience unfortunately. Great location and price, but that's all the good stuff I'm afraid. I came in the first day and it was a puddle of water in my room because it was leaking from upstairs. Had to put all my stuff elevated and move the bunk bed so that I don't get any water on any of my stuff. Really dangerous because the leak was through the light bulb so electrical problem as well. Reception couldn't change my room because they were packed and the leak stopped by the time we got in 7 hours later. The garden outside was full of people until 3-4 in the morning and the noise was terrible, you can't really sleep. You had to have the windows open because of the heat, so that didn't help with the noise from outside. The people in the room are lacking common sense and respect for others, I had a man in my dorm that couldn't stop "loving himself" during the whole night, completely disgusting. I would recommend if you are a woman and travel with your partner to get a room just for you two, or go to the women only dorms and leave him with the guys, because this was a horrible experience for me, I had to leave 5 hours before my checkout time just to leave that horrible room. They have a lot to do and more security around, the main gate does not lock, that is a big problem for anyone who stays there because anyone can have access to the main garden and of course if they find a door open, can have access to your building, and our main door to our bulding was fully open all night long, so not that secure. Unfortunately for a Safestay, it did not feel safe at all. Very dissapointed.

I booked in and there is a mouse running round reception! I have stayed before and had no issues. Anytime i stayed there was a plug and light switch by bed. However when i checked in my room it was pitch dark. No plug no light by bed (I had stayed previous night and there was an individual plug and light in the bunk!). I complained to reception who were not very friendly. I said it was not the bunk advertised and anytime i stay here there always plug and light. So he went up to room and points out low plug on wall (Im in top bunk). When I went down he tried to charge me ÂŁ5.00. I said all i want is what advertised what i booked for. He and his colleague told me i could stay elsewhere. I said its nearly midnight where am i going to go? His colleague goes up to room with torch and points to high plug on wall says problem solved. Only high plug on next bunk! Says i dont need a light i can use my phone. As I repeatedly told them its not safe having no light. I was forced to stay in room as had nowhere else to go. False advertising rude staff. Avoid it for your safety

After reading the reviews for this place I can’t say I had high expectations but to be fair Safestay Kensington & Holland Park has restored my faith in hostels of this nature.
This was my third experience of a hostel and can confirm it was my fave one so far.. good to see a hostel with some life & soul.
could some improvements to the fabric of the building me made? Probably. For example uneven surfaces could make it difficult for people with accessibility issues. But are the staff on hand when needed? Yes.
Are they polite?
Yes.
I do think that staff need to get out from behind the desk a bit more but that’s my opinion. I observed members of staff, sat chatting about personal stuff yet the restaurant and outside eating area was covered in cups, plates & rubbish later in the evening. Easily sorted with a quick tidy.
The communal areas of the hostel were otherwise clean and tidy. Despite some reviews posting pictures of dirty toilets, every bathroom I visited, was very clean with housekeeping on hand in the morning. So don’t let a few negative reviews let u thjnk this place is filthy becaue it’s far from that. It’s a very pleasant building and must take a lot of looking after!

So my room was ok. I did ask for a bottom bunk and on arrival realised I had been allocated a top bunk. This was swiftly rectified by a staff member. Unlike others I’ve stayed at the bunks have privacy curtains, they are very comfortable and bedding clean.
I did note that the door slammed a lot and whilst I appreciate that door shutting is needed in line with health and safety regs, something should be explored to reduce the bang made, if I had been staying more than one night the door banging would have been an issue.

Hopefully I’ve not waffled on too much but again don’t just go by the reviews on this site.
I found a clean, inviting building, with attentive staff and purposeful space to get my head down. Excellent transport links and providing you go the right way; extremely easy to get to. Beautiful location!
Again This hostel has restored my faith in hostels and when I visit London in the future; I’ll be keeping these guys in mind.

This is a very good hostel. My room was clean, with good quality linen and duvet. There were curtains around the bunk, a light and charge point also a secure place to store bags/luggage. The bathroom was contemporary, and very clean. The common areas were, again, very well kept. Staff were busy but polite. It does what is says on the tin and offers a safe stay, whilst feeling very international and contemporary. I like it here and have stayed quite a few times now over the years. It is a fab location too.

I highly recommend Safestay. Located in the beautiful neighborhood of Kensington, the hostel is situated inside Holland Park. Our room was spacious and clean. Staff were very friendly and the manager David was very helpful. A continental breakfast is served in the lobby, and laundry facilities are available. The front desk has small items you may need like adaptors and sim cards. The hostile has a very international vibe with guests of all ages and backgrounds. Considering the prices in London, and the location, this is an excellent value.

We are a family of 6 so booked a whole 6-bed room en-suite bathroom and it was a convenient place to crash after long days in the city. Advantages: excellent location (just south of Notting Hill, in Kensington) with 2 close tube stations (central line, circle/district). Option of breakfast. Staff was helpful. Garden includes table-tennis and picnic tables. Hostel is inside beautiful Holland Park. Negative: mattresses not so comfortable. You have to bring your own towel.

Whetherspoons down in Shepherds Bush which is a brisk ten minute walk downhill or 3 minutes on any buds on Holland Park does a great fry up breakfast for just 3.5 and has refill coffees for 1.30 very good value and recommended.

Hi! Thanks for the questions! I think the place is totally safe for females. for your stuff- make sure to lock stuff up well though your stuff may not be safe lying around! but yeah for your own safety all is fine! they have a lot of student groups come even - like groups of 40 twelve-year olds from overseas or europe. its quite the family type place actually for a hostel! About sleeping- if you book a room in the building which the lobby is attached to- then you can have a modern room and fewer people for a similar price. i loved the old building though- the castle looking one. if you call and ask which reservation is which building they can tell you.
