Check in was swift and courteous however after being offered a 'complimentary upgrade' which was below par of what I had booked, which is not what you want after a 4 hour journey I was provided the suite I booked originally, this was rectified quickly although wholly unnecessary and definitely not an upgrade on what I had booked and paid for. The sky junior suite was undeniably a fantastic suite. On arrival to my suite, the suite was cold and I raised this to housekeeping 18/01 and then to reception on the 19/01 I was advised maintenance attended however although the room seemed warmer the temperature plummeted despite the thermostat remaining on the same temperature. I raised the temperature/noise from vents issue on the 20/01 via reception who organised for maintenance to attend, which took place and the room was warm for the evening however on the morning of the 21/01 the temperature plummeted again Throughout my stay the heating system/vents were ridiculously noisy - I again (after informing reception) informed maintenance of this on 20/01 and was told this would be resolved however this was not the case. On the 20/01 my room was attended by 3 males to measure curtains - whilst I appreciate that maintenance and repairs have to be prepared for I did not appreciate this given I was in relaxing in bed and dressed for this purpose at the time and find it to be wholly unacceptable that these preparations took place whilst a paying customer is occupying the room specifically 3 males with a lone female guest. I attended the spa 18/01 where there was a ridiculous amount of towels on the floor, the spa presented as unkept and dirty, whilst I accept this was a Saturday - I do not expect this from a 5* hotel and accept that this was not the case when I revisited on 20/01. I arranged for a female masseuse and cut my desired time down from 1 hour to 30 minutes based on female masseuse availability, only to be greeted by a male and for him to inform me that he was going to be my masseuse, again I raised this as an issue as for religious reasons this was booked on this basis, it was immediately rectified however again not what I would expect from a 5* hotel and I remained with the lesser time. The checkout was 12pm hence I am extremely disappointed that I was disturbed 2 times in the morning of the 21/01 before 12pm and once at 12.03. The initial person was housekeeping to which I did not respond and they entered despite not being provided permission however left when realising I was in the room. The second time again prior to 12pm I did not hear the door due to having music on however am completely bewildered as to why someone thought it would be appropriate to open the door and throw a Marriott Bonvoy flyer (as they were new to Marriott that day) on the floor. I’m not sure why on earth anyone would do this especially given I was not dressed! The third disturbance whilst I admit I was late 12.03?! to check what time I am leaving? I officially made a complaint and a number of offers were provided - which was lengthy and cumbersome however a further visit was arranged for March 2020. Some of which was complimentary as the above was all proved to be correct and management were seemingly apologetic. Given COVID I called prior to check that all was well with the reservation, the receptionist ‘scoffed’ and stated ‘of course’. I attended the day of check in to be asked why I had attended as the hotel was not open to reservations and all reservations had been transferred. Admittedly less pleased as once again after a commute, I am told on arrival that I will not be staying at the hotel. The lady did not understand nor was sympathetic to my questioning as to why they could not have simply picked up the phone, called me and informed me this was he case which in all honesty would have resulted in me booking an alternative hotel as opposed to staying in a hotel that they decided I should stay in and not that I booked. The lady was rude and definitely lacked customer service skills, the one word to sum up her skills was ‘dire’ as was my previous visit. They paid for a taxi (which they suggested was a favour to me which is laughable) to the Montcalm Royal London House - after a number of room changes due to the tattiness, stained and worn rooms I settled for what they provided and left first thing in the morning. In conclusion - two shocking hotel experiences provided by the same hotel and a hotel that should be stripped of its 5 star status.…
We always stay here when we come to London because it ticks all of our boxes: - Good size rooms - Pool facilities - Close to tube - Reasonably priced - Cool area Service is fine! We have never had breakfast so not sure what it’s like. But a great all rounder for the price. Beds are SUPER comfy! Cool electric curtains.
I would say firstly overpriced but what is not overpriced in London. Small rooms but good beds. Not a hotel you would hang out in. Used the coffee bar on ground floor pretty good. Staff distant and unfriendly. Not particularly sensitive to tired travellers.
Love everything about this hotel, spa, staff, rooms, room service. everyone is friendly and helpful, will go the extra mile for you. Always my go-to place to stay in London. Definitely recommend staying here, great hotel for couples or solo trips to relax. Always a warm welcoming staying here, have never been disappointed.
Stayed here back in January 2019 had posted reviews to Booking.com but hadn’t posted here. The room was nice with all the tech and stuff The bed was quiet squeaky so when you’d move about it would squeak. The bed was also 2 single beds put together and you’d be able to feel a gap which was quiet annoying. Also another issue which everyone seems to have is the power going out. Is there any reason for this to constantly be happening?
