I've been staying at the St Athans since January 1979, so I've got a sentimental bias, but it's been my go-to place ever since. The basic rooms are exactly that: bed(s), basin, and an armoire but no table or chairs; lav and showers are a half-flight up/downstairs. There's no lift and the floors creak, but it's clean and in a... More

Just about any hotel or b&b nowadays has a kettle and TV in the rooms, sadly when I stayed two nights recently my room had neither. I don't want to hear the excuse that there is a cafe downstairs. Why should a person have to leave there room and pay for a coffee or tea on top of what they... More

The bathrooms were acceptable and the room was quite charming. The location is perfect. The room was tidied daily as well as the bathroom (you can't expect too much from it as it was shared, though). Recommended.

Enjoyed our stay here. It was terrifically located for St Pancras Station and wasn't too hard to reach from Heathrow either. Our room was reasonably sized (although the bathroom was very small). Room was kept neat and tidy and you could get a good breakfast and coffee downstairs at Bloomsbury Coffee House (10% off for guests).

I stayed here as I was attending a course near by on a low budget. The hotel was really easy to find and close to Kings Cross. I got in around 9pm, travelling by myself and had no issues in the area. The welcome was friendly and relaxed, love the wifi available. The room was small as expected but had... More

We stayed at St Athans for one night last week I honestly could not fault it! I booked originally because of the location about 20 minutes walk from the West End (we didn't actually end up waking because we were feeling lazy, but it was quick and easy to get there on the tube from Russell Square station) as we... For the price we paid the conditions were very good considering that also the location is good, near the metro and near the train station. Room was very small and basic but very clean, bathroom also clean. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Staying on business might not be the best way to experience this hotel, if you are on holiday in London and looking for a quirky English b+b style hotel I would say go for it, but when you are working away, having en-suites as apposed to shared bathrooms really would be preferable. The room itself was clean although had Mis-matched... More

Thanks for your review, which although you only gave us 3 stars explained quite well what we are like - although one correction, we do have ensuite rooms. The St. Athans Hotel is situated in a 200 year old Georgian Terrace townhouse - therefore many of the upper floors aren't level and there are many stairs - if you mobility... More

I was recommended the St Athans by my mother who has recommended it to many of her friends. When I was traveling to London on my own this summer I was looking forward to having a "mom certified" home-base that was gentle on my travel budget. I booked a double room and for the small additional fee, I think it... More

A convenient place to stay; clean comfortable rooms; no frills; staff friendly and helpful; walking distance to many of London's attractions. Stayed here while attending a graduation ceremony at SOAS. There is a very nice coffee-shop in the basement that serves a good breakfast.

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
