This was my first time staying at a hostel so I was very hesitant about a lot of things but Palmers Lodge definitely exceeded or met my expectations. Their staff is super friendly and helpful and they definitely want the best for their guests (Josh especially at the front desk, answering my 10 million questions) . They go above and beyond to make sure you are having the best stay possible. I originally booked the 28 mixed room, which I didn't expect to have older guests in (didn't expect them in the hostel in general, but that's on me now on Palmers Lodge), and the first night was a bit too much for me and that's more on me as a person and less on Palmers. For one or two nights, first-timers at a hostel probably could do the 28 mixed, but it also comes back to you as a person. Even though there were 28 people in that room, it didn't necessarily feel like it. It was pretty big even though it was bunk beds everywhere. I wish there were more outlets though. I also found out I'm not a fan of bunk beds on this trip lol (felt very claustrophobic and hot at times). The room (or at least where my bed was) was hot while I was here and it was difficult to sleep at night. Anyways, after the first night, I coughed up more money (wasn't as much as I expected it to be) and moved to a much spacious private room that surpassed my expectations. I had my outlets, I had a bigger bed, I had my privacy, and I didn't even mind it being by the bar or anything. I'm not a heavy sleeper but I didn't have a problem with it and the noise was gone by 12 or so. The showers were actually much cleaner than I expected. The kitchen is small so not many people can access it at one time and they can't expand it (there's a law against it), but it works. The most important takeaway from Palmers Lodge is that you definitely get a bit more than what you paid for whether you get a mixed, females-only, or private room. It's a hostel at the end of the day, but they do a lot to make them competitive with hotels and Airbnbs in the area. The hostel itself is in a great location -- about 4 minutes from the Swiss Cottage underground station and another 4-5 minutes from the Finchley Road Station (underground and coach -- coach is great if you're coming and going from Stansted). I don't really have any complaints for this place, just that in the private room, the wifi could get a little spotty at times. It was convenient, charming, and I hope to someday come back with some friends so they can see what Palmers Lodge is about! Thanks to all!!

My local friend recommended this place and now I will recommend it to my friends. I stayed at the hostel for 4 nights with my daughter. Our room was small but clean -and the beds were so good to sleep. Honestly, what else do you do in your hostel room than sleep, while you are on a holiday? Breakfast was good at British standards and the price was reasonable. The staff was nice and helpful. The only minus comes for the internet connection, which didn't work very well. Definitely I will come back here next time I visit London. Tube and bus connections were near and convenient.

Every few months I visit London and this place is my home away from home. This is the 4th time I’ve stayed here. I even booked a different hostel once and hated so much that I had leave and stay here. Everyone is friendly, the place is homely and clean and the beds are nice and accommodating. Seriously cannot recommend enough. my face lights up everytime I turn the corner with my little suitcase. So many shops around it as well. Just perfect place really Insta @barely.brown
