I used to stay at this hotel reasonably often a few years ago and found it decent, well located next to finchley road tube, plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, bus stop to luton airport across the road. But now the standard of the accommodation is grim. I stay in many holiday inn express hotels and this one is the first time ive seen an old style express in some time. Meanwhile plenty of other expresses have been through the design stage with the black bathrooms and on to the next style. This place needs serious work - lump beds that squeak with any movement - room like an oven because of such poor heating / air con - smelly and dirty corridors - really bad water pressure in the bathroom that has seen no refurb probably since the place was built. The staff were still as pleasant and helpful as I recall previously but for the rates charged this hotel simply isnt up to scratch and I probably wont return until its done up unless im really desperate.

We needed a hotel with close proximity to central London and good access to/from the M1. We also required parking as we were doing Ride London. I'm glad to say we chose Holiday Inn Express Lonson-Swiss Cottage. The staff were delightful and simply couldn't do enough for us during our stay, even catching up with us to see how our day went. The parking is very limited (5 spaces and some garages) and we booked many months in advance. We checked spaces were available by phone before booking online, the parking cost being £20 for 24 hours. The nearest tube station is Finchley Road on the Metropolitan line, only 5 minutes walk away as well as a main street and some shops including a Waitrose and Sainsburys. Accessibility is good from up North via the M1, not too much traffic and queueing. We received a courtesy call the day before to ensure everything was OK with the booking and to ask whether anything had changed or needed any additional requirements. The twin room we had was clean, tidy and did the job for an overnighter, easily accommodating 2 road bikes and all our associated stuff.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Swiss Cottage on and off since May for business. The hotel is located in Finchley Road across from the O2 centre. Easy travel into central London from bus stop outside and the tube station a few minutes walk along the road. The staff were friendly and happy to help each time I stayed. Breakfast was good with plenty of selection of hot and cold items. Breakfast could be busy at peak times. Hotel tended to be quiet in the evening and they do have a evening meal menu available if you didn’t want to venture out plus a bar area. But tends to be food items which could be heated up rather than freshly prepared. Although there is a good selection of restaurants over in the O2 centre or within walking distance. Plus local shops and Sainsburys within the centre too. I stayed in numerous rooms, front and back, and didn’t notice the traffic noise after rush hour. Rooms were always clean although missed touches like having sockets next to the bed. Beds were average for comfort and all room had freeview TV. What did mark the hotel down was poor Wi-fi being a business user. This was rather poor and unusable most evenings or on the days I worked from the hotel. Depending on where you were located in the hotel the mobile signal fluctuated too which didn’t help with hot spot connectivity. Air con was controlled from reception rather than the room. You could turn it on and off from the room but changes to temperature involved speaking to reception. Decent comfortable and convenient functional hotel if you are visiting the area for business or an event but don’t expect luxury touches, modern decor, or lots of space in rooms.

Stayed here for three nights. First huge plus was the air-conditioning. London hotels can be poor for this normally, and we stayed during heatwave. AC worked superbly.. 2nd, shower pressure was strong. Hotel clean and a basic breakfast was included. 3 minutes walk from London underground, on many bus routes and across the road are supermarkets and some nice places to eat. Rooms quite small and no drawers for clothing storage. My wife thought bed a bit soft but I thought was OK. We booked it so we could go to Lords and it was perfect for this - 2 stops on tube or a20 minute walk. Long and short.... We would stay here again.... Especially if London was hot 🔥
