My wife and I stayed at the Albion House Hotel for a few nights just before the coronavirus pandemic really kicked off. The decor of both the hotel and the restaurant was fascinating, a mixture of traditional, baroque and modern and our room in the hotel was very comfortable and well equipped; we had a wonderful view, too, of the Royal Harbour from our bedroom window. The hotel staff could not have been more friendly and were being extremely careful to avoid any possible risk from infection. The food at Townleys was delicious and well presented, both for our evening meals and breakfasts - compliments to the chefs are certainly due.

Albion House was a very nice, simple place to stay for one night in London. It was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The check-in was fast and simple, just be aware that the building where you check in is across the street from the actual property. The surrounding area was quiet and nice, a mere 3-minute walk from Kings Cross St. Pancras, with connections all across London, England, and even to other parts of Europe. My room overlooked a city square with trees and benches and all residential buildings around it. The room itself was nice. It was definitely a small room, with little room to walk around, and the bathroom was extremely small (there wasn't an actual shower stall--just a shower head on the wall and a curtain dividing the shower space from the toilet and sink space, but the floor of the shower was the floor of the bathroom). The linens and towels were clean and the bed was very comfortable. The windowsill was nice and the flatscreen TV was much appreciated, as was the electric kettle. No lift, the bathroom being so small that you essentially could've showered while sitting on the toilet or brushing your teeth at the sink, making the floor constantly wet (you had to cross the wet shower floor area to even get to the toilet so that was a little bit gross...but it is standard for a lot of places in Europe so it wasn't that big of a deal. It still managed to drain just fine and it really ended up not being a problem, through for a longer stay I would've found it difficult. The room was small too--my luggage didn't really fit, but I was just one person and it was just one night and I was safe and comfortable and that's all that mattered!

I was really disappointed that, on my way to the hotel to check in, I was called to say there had been an error with the booking form when I had booked, and that our booking had been cancelled. This is despite being sent a confirmation email and a reconfirmation email by Albion. When I pressed them about that this booking form issue was, the staff member decided to change his story and say there was a water leak in the rooms which is why the booking was cancelled - despite the voicemail I received from them claiming otherwise. It feels obvious to me that they received a higher paying booking elsewhere, it is a shame that they cancelled on us (having booked directly through Albion) more than last minute with no apology as to leaving us stranded with absolutely no notice. Horrible treatment of people.

Not a good start. One has to check in at the Melville hotel a few doors away, and the man carried my bag across the square to Albion House. He gave me a key to the front door and a key to my room. There is no breakfast. When you go into the building there is a short hallway and at the back he led me down a few stairs to a door at a half landing which turned out to be my room. I would say that it had previously been a walk in cupboard. It was very narrow with just enough space for the bed which seemed like one of those that you erect for someone coming to stay. Everything was clean and there was a very small shower room and washbasin at the far end. Hardly room to turn round. No other facilities.
