Booked two rooms for a family theatre break. Great location for the West End Soho and Covent Garden within easy walking distance. Located equidistant to Holborn and Russell Square Underground stations.
Our rooms were spacious, extremely clean and despite being advised that housekeeping would only be every 3 days, our rooms were serviced during a 2 night stay. The beds were quite hard and could do with extra pillows. The staff were friendly and a available if required. Breakfast was served at the sister hotel next door, good continental included in the room rate, extra for a cooked breakfast but good value.
Was a good stay and would revisit.

We stayed here for one night for a commitment at the Shaftesbury Theatre and its proximity to that location was the deciding factor. On this basis we were happy with our decision.

Checkin was smooth and as you have to buzz the door bell every time you need to enter the hotel - it comes with a feeling like you are entering someone’s home over a hotel. It’s probably a valid security reason for this (read into that what you will) and wasn’t that much as an inconvenience as the door was always opened promptly.

It wasn’t the cheapest hotel rate for a night’s stay but it certainly wasn’t the most expensive. London hotels of this vintage often come with very small rooms but we were pleasantly surprised when we opened the room door to be greeted by 3 floor to ceiling windows and a high ceiling it was too. Our room felt very spacious with a separate kitchenette which had a fridge, microwave, sink, kettle, biscuits, milk (provided in the fridge) and tea bags (provided in the draws). Bathroom was a good size with a full bath and hot decent pressured shower. The bed was king size but boy was it like sleeping on a bit of ply wood - it was that straight and that hard.

The room does look dated and there is a little rough around some edges but it was still fully functional and of a good standard.

We spent a few nights at the Grange- I did expect it to be a little tired from the reviews but it was the best value hotel in the area I wanted.
The location is great for sightseeing although the rooms are a bit dated. The staff were all very friendly and helpful unfortunately the first room we were given hadn’t been cleaned properly but the manager was very apologetic and moved us to another room which was clean and comfortable.
The continental breakfast was fine to get us going- fruit cereal meat and yoghurt and again the serving staff at breakfast were cheerful and helpful.

This was my second visit to this hotel within a couple of days. Had I written my review after the first visit it would have been 4/5 stars. I like the hotel which is why I booked it again; however, my 1 star review is down to the service I received on my second visit. I arrived early before midday and as expected my room wasn’t ready which wasn’t a problem. I had an appointment at 2.30pm so I left my bag and said I would return after my meeting. I had booked the room using Booking.com and at around 1.30pm I received a message from the hotel via Booking.com to let me know that I had been moved to another hotel and using Covid as the reason?? I collected my bag after my appointment and went to what was described as a 4 star stunning townhouse The Grange Whitehall. I think the last time it was stunning would have been at the beginning of the last century!!! The room was ‘executive’ as I had been upgraded for my trouble. The room was dirty and shabby with ripped curtains, torn wallpaper, broken tiles and green gunk around the bottom of the dirty shower screen. I called Booking.com immediately and asked them speak to The Buckingham and find out why I had been moved. Apparently they had overbooked. As I was there before midday and there was only 1 other guests bag being stored there at the time I’d like to know why I was moved. Surely if they’d overbooked it would be first come first served. Also I checked later in the evening on Booking.com and it still showed plenty of availability for the The Buckingham ??? Looking at other reviews across this group of hotels it seems overbooking and shifting guests around is standard practice. I was travelling on my own and therefore had specifically booked The Buckingham as it had a small kitchenette which I wanted to use to heat up my evening meal, not wanting to eat out on my own. I was left with a meal which I had to throw away as I had no way of heating it and no fridge in which to store it; therefore no meal. I advised Booking.com I wasn’t happy with the replacement room and I obtained a refund and left. I then had to find another room at nearly 7pm!! Luckily I checked into a Premier Inn which as always was clean, comfortable and cheaper. I am extremely unhappy with the service I received and despite being offered a 10% discount off my next stay, I will never use this group again, not even if the room were free. Also I’m curious how Covid and current safety measures has anything to do with overbooking?? Please note the pictures are not of The Buckingham they are from the ‘stunning townhouse’ I was palmed off with!!

Booked for two nights theatre break .
Very convenient locality.
Staff were very good and friendly.

We had to go to the hotel next door for breakfast which meant that at times it was very crowded but the breakfast was very good .
The hotel needs a major refurbishment.
As shown in the pictures taken it is very shoddy for the price charged and the location.
It needs a major overhaul urgently .
Would not book this hotel again .

Dear AnnatVentnor, Thank you for taking the time to review your recdent stay. We are sorry to hear you were not satisfied with your stay but thank you for your kind comments about our wonderful staff. Due to staff shortages which are happening industry wide, we have had to close some of our breakfast rooms to allow us to staff properly and be able to offer a better overall service. In the current climate we do not have any plans yet for a refurbishement as we work to ensure we can protect the jobs of all of our staff.

Excellent location on a quiet street near the British Museum. It was a large room, with super king bed, sofa and sitting area. The room has a kitchenette with sink, microwave, kettle and mini fridge. The hotel also provided some crockery and cutlery. Decor wasn’t perfect but it didn’t look like it had been repainted not too long ago, definitely not shabby. Staff were very polite and efficient, and even though they had to open the door to everyone as you don’t get a key, they were always very prompt (this additional security did make it seem very safe). We left our cases with them before and after checking in/out. We were there for three nights and it was pretty quiet throughout our stay, we weren’t aware of any other guests in the place. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, Euston station is walkable and there’s tube and bus stops nearby. Would definitely stay again.

I visited on a stay with my mother Marjorie. The service and experience we received was amazing.

We arrived at 6pm on a Wednesday, and were greeted by some lovely staff who showed us to the lavish dining quarters. The food was delicious and the waiters were polite and always had impeccable manners. We thoroughly enjoyed our first dinner, although we had packed quickly as we were moved from another hotel which had overbooked.

The sleeping conditions were perfect, there was a light breezy fan that was in our room, which cooled down the summery weather. I slept well on comfy sheets and a crisp pillow. Each seemed to have been cleaned properly.

I would entirely recommend this to anybody who is looking for a posh trip to London, also the attractions in the area are entertaining and I loved the theatre that was running.

250 quid a night got me a dank smelling basement room with no curtains on the double doors leading out to a dirty stairwell. The doors were not secure, with just one bolt securing the top of one door, so anyone could open from the outside.

When I immediately asked for a change of room I was informed that there was no room at the various inns ( the same company own the terrace, segmented into different hotels ). In fact I was told that I was lucky to have a room as they were at ‘minus 2 capacity’. Lucky me.

On my second night of a 2 night stay I demanded a different room. I was granted a ground floor room which, though secure, opened out onto the kitchen area. Very noisy. Still dank smelling.

Do yourself a favour and avoid.

Very convenient for central London attractions with Holborn station 10 minutes walk and plenty of bus routes as well. Covent Garden is walking distance about 20 minutes with theatre land and loads to see and do. Basic hotel needs a bit of TLC but clean, friendly staff, leave bags before check in ,good continental breakfast or pay £5 extra for fry up. Not bad for the price in central London.

The hotel location is ideal for sightseeing in London, so close to tube stations and in a nice area close to shops and restaurants. The hotel is dated and tired, there was no air conditioning and the room was hot and stuffy. When we went to check out we got in the lift and the lights went out and we were in complete darkness. We dragged our luggage downstairs as we didn’t want to chance the lift again. We informed reception and instead of the expected “I’m sorry this happened, I will get it checked out” response, the receptionist went to the lift and pressed the button, came back to us and defensively told us it was working now.

Dear Loody1, thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. We are sorry that the hotel did not meet your expectations. The property is not advertised with airconditioning only with fans for guests comfort. We are sorry it was a little uncomfortable and we appreciate that the weather has been unusually warm for the time of year. Please accept our sincere apologies if our receptionist did not apologise for the lift failure in the first instance. We will address this accordingly. We hope we have the opportunity to serve you again and create a better stay experience in the future.
