If you take only one thing from this review, let it be this: the staff at this hotel is first rate. If they can do anything for you, they will try. And in truth, without boring you with details, I was a bit high maintenance. The hotel itself has some cool features. I recommend the breakfast over points. It is pretty good. Every floor has a little coffee and snack area. The hotel is very secure and the convenience to King’s Cross-St. Pancras, as well as the tube lines that will take you anywhere in London you could possibly want to go. There are plenty of restaurants nearby of all varieties. If you are craving Indian food, you’ll be all set here — there are five Indian restaurants in short walking distance. As for the quirks: the rooms are small with hardly any space to put anything. If you want a bit more space book the Victorian Room. The plumbing seems to be in need of an upgrade, getting water the right temperature is a bit of a chore. If you get a room with a tub and a shower handle, ask for extra towels in advance. I kind of get the sense that when this hotel was built it was for the average person doing an overnight in London before going on to their final destination. All said though, it was a good experience and I would happily stay here again.…
Room was very tiny, though well appointed, not room to store suitcases, no seating, except single desk chair. Booked as opposite Eurostar terminal ( and very expensive). BUT, we had to leave at 6am, and there wasNO breakfast, even continental, available. ( breakfast menu looked great, but didn’t start until 7, and it was included in our price for the room)
Oh my my, let me tell you about the Great Northern Hotel in Kings Cross London! It's not just great, it's fantastic, stupendous, and downright amazing. First things first, the canapés were so tasty and perfectly presented that I had to resist the urge to stuff my face and hoard them all for myself. The service was so attentive, it was like having a personal butler at my beck and call. And let's not forget about the design - chic, sophisticated, and oh so discreet. It's like the hotel was designed for royalty, but made accessible to the rest of us commoners. But the real gem of this place is the Italian General Manager, Marco. He's like a ray of sunshine, a breath of fresh air, and a hug from your favorite aunt all rolled into one. He's so charming and humble, you'd think he was born to be a hotelier. And to top it off, he's hands-on and really knows how to make you feel at home. And let's not forget the networking event. Oh boy, was it a blast! It was like a who's who of the business world, all gathered in one place to exchange ideas, share stories, and have a good time. I met so many great people that I'm still sorting through all the business cards I collected. In summary, the Great Northern Hotel is simply amazing. The canapés will make your taste buds dance, the service will make you feel like royalty, the design will make you feel sophisticated, and the Italian General Manager, Marco, will make you feel like family. So book your stay now and experience the greatness for yourself! …
I have stayed at the Great Northern hotel on many occasions over the years. It has fantastic access to St Pancras or Kings Cross and the architecture is unlike any other hotel I have stayed in, one of Islington’s grand old buildings. Unfortunately my stay in Cochette room 315 last night was far from being a five star experience. The main problem was an abundance of fruit flies. I noticed one in the bathroom just after I checked in but then later on there were several flying around the in the bedroom. There must be some rotten food or something attracting them that the cleaners haven’t discovered. Other minor annoyances were the WiFi - very slow speed at about 9mb and Netflix kept buffering so I ended up using my phone instead as it had 5G and could get 50mb. The television used to have a large library of free films, these have all now vanished and you can only get standard Freeview channels. The hotel is still (and probably always will be) a charming and unique experience, but £570 a night - I expect at least a clean room with no flies. …
We decided to stay here while in London for the night as the proximity to the station was ideal. Unfortunately this is where the praise ends. No hot water in our room and the shower heads were not cleaned of old limescale meaning only a very fine jet spurted pathetically out of one or two nozzles. Mentioned the lack of hot water at reception the next day and no apology just “ok thanks for letting us know” Staff seem a bit simple and clueless. Almost confused on a permanent basis. Toilet in cupboard right next to bed makes for an experience only suited to a solo traveller. We had to stay again a second night and paid for a bigger room but the experience was no better. Still no hot water for the entire stay. Beds are extremely uncomfortable and mattresses feel hollow with no added comfort/topper. This hotel needs better management as it currently feels that the person in charge doesn’t stay in hotels very often. Extremely disappointed- avoid!!!!…
When you’re told by your 19 year old that he’s coming home from University so you can have a night away….you seize the opportunity! As it happened, our one night in The Great Northern Hotel felt like a week in paradise. All the little touches found within this quirky space from the great big smiles at reception to the most wonderful staff in the restaurant, the hotel is definitely top of our list to return….even just to experience the food in the RAILS restaurant again! When I first walked in to our room, which was at the end of the corridor (opposite the complimentary Pantry) with a wonderful view of Kings Cross, I was surprised by how cosy it felt. My experience of hotel rooms across the world is that you never want to walk into a space and wish you were back at home, this certainly had the opposite effect ! The bottle of wine was opened by my good self while my husband opted for the biscuits left at the end of our bed. It feels like a proper break when you can crack open the wine and forget about chauffeuring kids around or walking the dog! The bathroom was exquisite with a beautiful, roll top bath, toiletries very obviously chosen with luxury and aroma in mind and I did enjoy the bath shelf which made it easier to drink my wine while soaking in a bubble bath! Everything about the bedroom itself had been thought about down to the double layered, black out blinds, dressing gowns and lamps above the bed and it was so lovely to have some extra complimentary soft drinks in the fridge without having to pay above the odds like the average mini bar. Later that evening, we ventured downstairs to the RAILS restaurant where I had already asked them to put aside a vegan cheesecake for me on our arrival. As a vegan, it can be hard to travel and find places to eat without feeling like the poor relation. We savoured every mouthful and not even the tiniest piece of vegetable disappointed us at any point. The chef has very obviously trained with the best and I was almost upset when my last spoonful of cheesecake melted away in my mouth. If you’re a foodie and love experiencing new flavours within a beautiful setting with brilliant, personable staff, the Rails is definitely a must for a special night. Within 24 hours, my Mummy duties and ‘muddy pawprint cleaning up’ service had resumed but the fairytale night we had at the Great Northern was worth every second. …
Great lobby, bar and people. Location was also top notch. But my room was pretty bad, esp considering they charged over 500 pounds per night. How bad was it? There was no shower, only a tub. The TV was miniature and the only heat source was a space heater. They would be wise to upgrade rooms like this.
I stayed here for a total of six nights in a "heritage" room. There are a lot of things I really like about this hotel. The location is great for anyone traveling out of St Pancras station. It is an interesting building that was renovated into a hotel about a decade ago. The design is lovely, the rooms are nicely done and everything is immaculately clean. There are some interesting touches such the pantry at the end of every hall with coffee and snacks available all day. If there is any drawback it is the size of the rooms. The category I was in is supposedly contains the largest rooms available and it was pretty small even by London standards. The size was perfectly fine for me traveling alone but for a couple it would be very tight.
I had a late lunch and early dinner in the hotel bar after arriving by train at King's Cross, the train station right outside the hotel entrance. Unfortunately, I didn't know about the restaurant. So I chose the bar. The bartenders were good to very good. The wine list was fairly priced with something for everyone. I liked the Bollinger champagne by the glass. The food menu was pretty weak. The Caesar salad was portioned well but the chicken had skin on it and there were slices of bacon in it as well. The menu should have disclosed the bacon. All things consider, I would probably return since there aren't any good restaurants inside King's Cross. But I do feel like the hotel could make a little effort to improve the quality of the food as well as its overall menu presentation.…
Perfect location to stay for a eurostar trip. Room was cute and cosy for two with a small kitchen down the hall for complimentary snacks like brownies and fruit. We had a lovely stay and had complimentary drinks vouchers to use for the bar downstairs. Thank you to the staff being so lovely with a seamless check in system
