Location is good for us, a good walk to the Nottinghill station. Every morning when we go out, tourists are coming in because Portobello is a tourist spot especially crazy every Saturday. This guest house is plain and simple accommodation for people not so choosy. It was comfortable sleep for us, clean beddings and hearty breakfast. Cheers to Michael and... More

If by shabby chic people mean no curtains on the windows, electrics which are burnt out and thick with dirt and coming home covered in flea bites; then shabby chic definitely isn't for me. Dreadful doesn't come close to describe this dive.

Went in to this restaurant this afternoon and walked out soon afterwards. We were shown various tables and then made to feel we were at fault for not picking up the menus left on first table. Sounds a small thing but our group felt we were being chastised, who wants this when hoping for a pleasant meal out with friends.... More

Portobello Gold was our final destination since My dogs and I started a walk along the Grand Union Canal the previous Saturday in Birmingham. A much needed rest had been earned and the very helpful and friendly staff at Portobello Gold provided us with everything we needed to do just so. The rooms very clean, light and of a good... More

This is definitely a 'shabby chic' B&B, and if you go in knowing that, you'll be fine. The furnishings were antique and the bed a little lumpy, but the bed linens were immaculate and the bathroom, though small, was very clean and well-maintained. The folks who run the place are very nice and helpful. We stayed here for the Portobello... More

Pittoresque street with small and chique fashion boutiques, cofee shops and pubs. Donn't miss the Saturday Antique Market.Aroun 11 pm all the pubs are clossing their ktichens, so be sure that you grab a bite in town before:)

I'm currently staying here now and frantically searching for a new place. Since coming in tonight, I've found 1 bug in my bed, and one bug in the bathroom. When leaving this afternoon, the room lock wasn't working. The staff is pleasant but it doesn't make up for this place being absolutely GROSS. I am a travel writer and have... More

Hi Nneya I did explain that we had done everything we could to eradicate bed bugs which were ONLY in that room. There was no excuse for the door lock. I am sorry for that. It is a pity we had no other rooms available as we were full with very happy customers. The Many Trip advisor reviews speak volumes.... More

Strange review this one. The Portobello Gold isn't the normal sort of hotel I stay in. However, it's faults added to its charm so I can only give it 5 stars. The location on Portobello road is brilliant and it makes this the hotel of choice if you're visiting Portobello Market. It's also the perfect hotel for Notting Hill Carnival... More

Perfectly situated, old-fashioned pub&accomodation at famous Portobello road. All you need for trips to London city. Our Room was very small and some equipment needed fixing, I guess we should have chosen one of the bigger/ less cheaper ones... Very friendly staff and good beers at the tap!

Location was AMAZING! Room not so much, didn't enjoy 3 flights of stairs with suitcases or the toilet/shower/basin combo room (yes all three in 1 tiny room with the shower over the basin!) Close to the tube station Notting Hill Gate but not great walking with suitcases!

Staying in Notting Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighborhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.
