Hotel's Favorite
As part of his Birthday present, I bought my son some ringside tickets for the WWE Smackdown & Money in the Bank events at the 02 Arena on the evenings of the 30th June & 1st July respectively and was looking for a nearby 4-star hotel with great connectivity to the Arena. As we were driving up from home in Wales, on-site car-parking was also a 'must' for us. After assessing our options I decided to reserve a twin room for 2 nights stay through Booking.com at the Doubletree London Excel. I emailed ahead to the General Manager, Richard Mackie and asked if it was possible to be allocated a room with a waterside view. I also cited my Hilton Honors number. I was delighted to be emailed back by Richard to say that they would do their best and then again he emailed on the day of our arrival to say that we had been given a complimentary upgrade to a Deluxe Twin Room with Water View. We easily located the hotel using Satnav and found ample parking space when we arrived around 4pm. Externally, the property presents as a pleasing, modern six-storey building next to Royal Victoria Dock. It is one of several major hotel chains with properties nearby. On entering the smart lobby area, there are several reception desks, with a Restaurant and comfortably furnished Bar to the left and right of the foyer. We were given a friendly welcome, with check-in being efficiently handled (accompanied by Doubletree's signature warm cookies). As I turned to enter my vehicle details in the ipad provided, I was informed that Richard had arranged for our parking to be complimentary for our stay. We were allocated room 530 and we took one of the two elevators to the 5th floor. We entered our spacious room and were delighted. To the right was a spacious shower room with walk-in shower, vanity washbasin with huge mirrors and shaving mirror and w/c. As this was a Deluxe room, we had been left 2 luxurious cotton bathrobes and matching slippers. There was an array of complimentary toiletries in pump action dispensers, shower caps and a good selection of fluffy white towels of various sizes. Lighting was excellent. Moving in to the bedroom, we had two very comfortable Queen beds, bedside tables, bedside lamps with integral reading spotlights, easy chair, swivel chair, desk, wardrobe, table lamp, digital safe, iron, ironing board, hairdryer and an extra-large wall-mounted flat-screen TV (with hotel information and Freeview TV channels along with a 'casting' option to view programmes from your personal device). There was a kettle along with tea-bags, coffee bags, Biscoff biscuits, two bottles of Mineral Water and also a Nespresso machine with a variety of coffee pods. We were provided with two mugs and two tumblers. We had also been left two beautifully gift-boxed cupcakes and a handwritten Birthday Card for my son. Shortly after we arrived in our room, the Duty Manager called to check that we had settled-in and that everything was to our liking. Lovely personal touches that I would normally expect to find only in 5-star Boutique Hotels. The attractive view from the large picture windows was directly over the waters of the dock, looking left to the London City Airport; looking right to the 02 Arena and beyond to the soaring buildings of Canary Wharf. The acoustic insulation of the windows was excellent and we enjoyed two great night's sleep. Both in our room and throughout the hotel, housekeeping was immaculate and all staff pleasant, helpful and genuinely friendly. If attending an exhibition at the Excel Conference Centre, it is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The nearby Prince Regent Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station is a 5 minute stroll and offers immediate connectivity to the 02 (a 15 min journey, changing at Canning Town). It is also it is your seamless link to the wider Tube network across Central London. There is also a Cable Car 15 mins stroll away that offers a fun alternative option to take you to direct to the 02. Between our 02 events, we spent a pleasant day exploring Greenwich, with tickets to the Cutty Sark, Royal Observatory, Planetarium and National Maritime Museum - a 20 minute journey by DLR & Tube. In summary, a modern hotel, perfectly situated for both venues and events in East London. Top marks to General Manager Richard Mackie and his wonderful staff for making my son's Birthday stay at the Doubletree so memorable.

Stayed here for work. Staff were great. Not too far of a walk from Prince Regent and Beckton Park stations. Rooms are large and comfy. Hot cookie on arrival and complimentary snacks too. What lets the hotel down for me, was the food. I didn’t find it the Hilton standard. Eggs were rubbery at breakfast and the burger tough at dinner. I also wanted to use the fitness room but found it to be disappointing with just a treadmill and stationary bike.

Great service, friendly staff, beautiful and convenient location, very good breakfast. Din and Ireen at the reception were both kind and friendly. Will come back. The breakfast options were very varied and of high quality. The view from our room overlooking the waterfront was surprisingly impressive.

Just back from a 3 night stay at this hotel. I was lucky enough to have a room on the 8th floor. It had an hallway, big bathroom and a spacious room that had a queen bed, wardrobe, desk with chair, tea and coffee and another chair in the corner. I didn’t have much of a view, but it didn’t matter. I only used the breakfast once, but it was very nice and plenty of choice. I was at a conference at the ExCel and the only down fall I had was the building work that was taking place around the ExCel. I had a very heavy case and there is no way I would have got it down the scaffolding stairs if a member of the public didn’t help me. There is also no disable access either, so if you need a ramp I would suggest not booking this hotel until the works have finished. It’s about a 10 min walk to the DLR, which has great connections into the centre of London. Overall it was a lovely hotel and I’d stay there again.

Wow, what a brilliant team. We needed to stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton, London Excel last week. Upon arrival, after a short walk from the Prince Regent Docklands Light Railway station, Sham beamed a very welcoming smile from his Reception desk... and it only got better from there on! Sham upgrade us to a balcony room but, as sometimes happens, the balcony door key was missing. We went out for an evening stroll and, good to his eager to please word, Sham had the door key sorted and Thames views and sounds were ours to enjoy... he even left a very polite and friendly note of explanation. He really is a great ambassador for brand DoubleTree and Hilton. Thank you Sham, you're very much appreciated.
