Detailed Reviews
We had a long weekend sightseeing in London and this hotel was perfect for our needs.
5 minutes from Paddington Station in a lovely area a short walk from Hyde Park, lots of local food and drink options if you don’t want to venture too far on an evening.
Both members of staff who I met were incredibly friendly and helpful.
A complimentary breakfast is provided consisting of breads, cheese, meat, cereals, peaches, yogurt, jams and croissants. The breakfast area is small but well organised with guests having 2 choices of breakfast time and a 45 minute slot to eat.
The rooms are basic but functional.
We’re a family of 2 adults, 2 older children and our room had a double bed with a single bed either side. A desk is in the room with hairdryer and tea/coffee facilities. Because of the choice of room there was very little floor space around the beds but for our requirements this wasn’t a problem, essentially we just wanted somewhere to rest our head.
The bathroom is a bit small but clean.
This is a great option if you’re just looking for somewhere to rest after a long day.

The location is perfect. There are shops and restaurants right across the street, and it's a 2 minute walk at best to reach a hospital, a coach stop, and a Tube station. The single room is indeed small (and I was aware of it), but the walls are good enough to not hear other guests, and the Wi-Fi connection is great. I've interacted with only two staff members (Sarah and Antonio), but they were absolutely delightful and of great help. Breakfast has two time slots (8:00-8:40 and 8:40-9:20), and it's the standard continental buffet of bread, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, jams, tea, coffee, and juices. Plain but satisfying.
I might've missed it in the offer here on Booking, but the changing of towels and bed linen comes with an additional fee. While that didn't bother me, since I've stayed for only a few days, it might be an inconvenience for somebody else.

We stayed for one night as a family of 5 in two rooms- a family room that had a double and two singles and a single room.
Positives:
Superb location. Paddington is lively, with shops, bars and restaurants all around it. The station is a 5 minute walk providing a convenient link to the rest of central London and beyond.
Very clean. The rooms and communal areas were impeccably clean.
Breakfast. Due to covid you order breakfast rather than there being a buffet and we were all happy with the selection available.
Negatives:
No lift. Our rooms were on the third floor and the steps were very steep and narrow.
The bathrooms. They are the same size as a bathroom in a caravan. The shower area is tiny and the toiletries provided are little sachets of soapy water, very poor. The towels are also poor quality and too small to wrap around a standard adult or even our teenage daughter
Other points to note:
When we booked the hotel said it had limited parking. What that actual means in there is one space in front of the hotel! We checked in early and were fortunate enough to get it.
There is no air conditioning but they do provide a small desk fan.
The carpets and general decor is quite tired, this didn’t bother us though as cleanliness was more important and didn’t disappoint.
Overall we think it is a decent hotel for the price you are paying considering it’s central London. None of the negatives were overly important to us and we’d be happy to stay there again (but will bring our own toiletries!)

Response from Best Western Plus Delmere Hotel, General Manager at Hotel Columbus
Responded Jul 20, 2021
Dear Guest, Thank you for writing a review regarding your recent stay at our property. We are glad to hear that, you noticed our efforts to provide optimal cleaning throughout the hotel. I will pass your comments onto our housekeeping team as well. We are also happy to know you liked the breakfast and location of our hotel, with very good transport links, as well as shops, bars and restaurants nearby. Regarding your comments about the lift, unfortunately, we are not able to install one, due to the dimensions of the building, which used to be a Victorian house. This is also the reason why, our bedrooms and bathrooms are compact. We will take your feedback about the toiletries and towels into consideration, so we can implement improvements in the future. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Regards, Yenny Souto Lopez General Manager

The hotel is located in a very convenient zone of London, with buses and underground to get you where you need. The staff was lovely and helpful, breakfast was nice (choices of cereals, toasts with different types of jam, one croissant per person, juices and hot drinks). Our room and the common areas were clean. We had asked prior to our arrival if we could get a room on the ground floor or the 1st due to health issues and they made it possible which was greatly appreciated! The room was available earlier than expected. There's also the possibility to left your luggage after you've checked out if needed.

Staff were very friendly and polite. The quiet room I’d requested was exactly that and, even though it was on the ground floor, I couldn’t hear anything from the reception/breakfast area. (I could, however, hear the rumble of tube trains which was nice!). The (double) room was a great size for one person with everything needed for a three night stay. That said, the bed would have been too small for two, I think. Everything was exceptionally clean and the furniture, even if slightly dated, was largely in very good condition. The bathroom was very small but modern and well-maintained. The standard of housekeeping was excellent. The fan was very effective in lieu of air conditioning (and I was also able to open the window).
The curtains let in a lot of light so an eye mask is recommended to avoid being woken up too early. I also couldn’t figure out how to switch off the light in the short hallway between bedroom and bathroom which meant a small amount of light came under the bedroom door. (I could have asked at reception about this…I didn’t which shows it wasn’t a big issue for me.) Breakfast - a little off putting for this vegetarian that the ham and cheese were on the same plate, with only one utensil between them. Breakfast was basic but adequate.

I've stayed at a number of the Hotels in this Paddington area, this entire section is smaller guest houses/small hotels, and the Columbus keeps it simple but clean, and gets it right for a one-night stay - or a couple more if you needed it!
No issues finding it, a short walk from Paddington, and friendly service from the lady on the front desk. Small and quiet hotel in itself, we were on the front and no problems at night. If you know London hotels, they're always a bit of a quirky layout but this does the basics and that's all I needed.
Helpful service again in the morning, from the chap now moderating the continental breakfast, which is your classic toast, cereals, OJ and there's a coffee machine to - a welcome addition to get the morning started.

We stayed at the Columbus hotel for 4 days at the end of April. For us a great experience. Staff at the reception were very helpful! Quick and easy check-in. Our room was a triple on the first floor which was very spacious considering London standards. Excellent cleaning. The bathroom is small but equipped with everything you need. In the room there is the possibility of making hot drinks with the appropriate set. The continental breakfast is varied with sweet and savory options. We appreciated the possibility of choosing the breakfast time (8 or 9) in order to have the table available. Paddington tube station less than 5 minutes walk. Possibility to leave your luggage on the day of check-out. Super recommended!

Great little find, we stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed a comfortable stay. Great locations just minutes away from Paddington tube station, lovely friendly staff and clean room with plenty of space to get ready near plug sockets and a mirror which is often not the case in many hotels. Breakfast was a continental offering which was sufficient, tasty and fresh. My only feedback for improvement related to the main shower head in the shower cubicle, we chose not to use it because it was extremely dirty with a build up of sludge which would be very easy to remove. Thankfully there was a small hand held shower head available which albeit needed cleaning too was no where near as bad as the static one on the wall. Overall good value for money and we would definitely book again and certainly recommend to others.

We had booked in Columbus Hotel as we wanted to stay in a cheap accommodation as were on a girls trip. Based on what we payed, the room size and cleanliness was in accordance. However, the bathroom and toilet was so small it just felt like sitting in ana airplane washroom.
The towels are extremely small to be sufficient for an adult.
Breakfast due to covid was not a buffet but the lady at the reception was very kind to take into consideration any last minute changes we made for breakfast.
The location is easily accessible to Paddington station and quite a large number of bar and cafes just round the corner of the hotel.
In terms of parking there is just 1 parking, but they did allow us to park in a space on the opposite side of the road which was a space for the other hotel parking. So not a problem for me.
The only biggest problem we faced was our room was on the 3rd floor and there is no lift. 😟
Over all a good stay. Will visit again when with friends. Not sure if I will stay again with my kids considering there is no lift

Great value. Very clean and tidy. Quality bedding, comfortable mattress. The bathrooms are very tiny, but that's to be expected. You may want to bring a splitter if you have multiple devices to charge at one time. We were there in late September and any earlier in the summer it would've been too hot in the room. I would consider this a three season hotel. It was nice having a window for fresh air, but the traffic noise is pretty constant.
All of the staff was attentive, courteous and well informed. Continental breakfast was high-quality. Overall a very nice experience.
