Got a room with no windows thus the room is not well ventilated. In the bathroom as well, there is a sensor light which has a timer set for every 2 minutes, thus while taking a shower the light goes off every 2 minutes.
The reception is more akin to a taxi rental company and has a really strange vibe.
The rooms are clean but very tired. My room had a pretty big hole in the wall leading onto the bathroom which wouldn't have been that hard to fix up.
The random fridge in the room needed switching off as it was very loud through the night. The property offers no aircon, just a ceiling fan which again is so loud you couldn't use through the night. They did provide an extra fan to help with the heat but that was pretty useless.
Sticking with noise, it's quite a noisy hotel. You can hear pretty much everything that's going on and the noise from the street will also mean that you can't really sleep with your window open.
£155 for sub standard accommodation felt like a rip off compared to the £200 a night I'd paid the two days before at the Clayton in Chiswick (and I got breakfast).
If I start with the location, then it is excellent for the early Eurostar out of St Pancras. And I got the hotel for a slightly cheaper price than advertised.
On arrival, we couldn't tell if it was a guest or a member of staff on reception such was the enthusiasm on display.
We checked in and received the room key, which was an actual key and not a card. It's been a while since we stayed in a hotel where they handed out keys. We were advised to go into the lift one at a time, as it couldn't take much weight! The sign of the lift, said Max 150kg! My wife went first.
You got in the lift and prayed it would go up. Fortunately, it did.
The room was clean but had to be be most basic room ever. The Yale type lock didn't actually have a lock, it was broken, so the door just slammed shut. It didn't feel secure. Whenever someone walked past our room in the corridor, it sounded like they were trying to get in our room. The bathroom was very poky and one of the taps didn't work. The lever just spun around. It had the small sink which was so low, it suited a child more than an adult
The bed was supposedly a double, but it felt like a large single. The room has a portable TV but the volume button didn't work, so it was on quite loud.
The noise from outside was dreadful, There were some people, hanging around on the street corner, talking loudly and laughing and you could hear the sirens of the emergency services every few minutes.
All in all, I think we managed about 2 hours sleep. I didn't need an alarm to wake me up, I was up and itching to get out of there.
As I first said, the hotel is really convenient for the Eurostar, but that's about it.
For some people it might work but unfortunately, for us, it did not. So next time, I'll have to did a little deeper and fork out for a better hotel.
Advice for visitors: there WILL be noise in the evenings so if you're a person who needs earplugs, bring those. There's no air con, as is typical for this style of city hotel. There is a lift but it's really really tiny and has a sign saying 'Only 1 person and 1 bag'. There were no toiletries in the shower, so bring those too. Actually, a shelf in the shower to put them on is one of the things I'd add, room 30 didn't have one.

* perfect massive fridge for all your goody’s p.s please only bring one bottle of water for it to go in
*perfect for disabled access ….if there sleeping in the front reception
* stairs well….there is a lift that only goes to half a building so please request bottom floor unless you want to loose 6 stone in one journey up….please be a size 12 to fit through the doors and stairs
* the towels are just perfect size for a baby so that’s a bonus on that but that’s all you get so please come on a warm day to drip dry
Well there’s a bonus of staying here a postive one of course we’ll just one…..McDonald’s breakfast over the road

All of the below issues were brought to the attention of the Hotel staff but nothing was done.
1) There was no lift (lift was broken) so we had to carry our heavy luggage up 4 narrow flights of stairs. We were advised that the lifts were only recently broken however I see on other Google reviews that this has happened on different occasions before . Food scapes were left on the ground which could have resulted in slipping on the mess ( see photo)
2) There was a noisy humming sound in our room which went on & off at random times during the day & night which made it hard to sleep.
3) The shower had barely any running water. It was barely a trickle which made washing hair impossible and having a shower not good. I tried to adjust the pressure but it barely made any difference.
4) There was no fridge in the room although a fridge was advertised ( see the Hotel’s web page)
5) The room was very hot and stuffy. Some air-conditioning would have worked wonders. The cheap plastic fan didn’t help much.
I complained to management but they claimed I had nothing to complain about
NEVER AGAIN , We paid good money to stay here. The Carlton Hotel needs to lift its game
Too noisy, small rooms, furnitures from the 80's and some broken, shower handle broken.1 Small lift(2 people max)
Only good thing is the location.since its close to metro and bus stations
And they have some tea and coffee and elecctric kettle in room
We would have given atleast 3 stars for the above but the lack of security and what happened the night we left let the place down badly.
Basically, it was about 2am and we hadn't been back in long when we had someone unlock and open the door and was as shocked to see us there as we were to see him. The poor bloke had obviously just arrived as he had his case with him.
The room doors don't have any way of locking them on the inside, so anyone staying on their own or with kids, DONT, IT'S NOT SAFE!!!
Basically, pay abit extra and stay in a safer hotel.

Request a change of room again and told no. So went to another hotel round the corner. Thankfully that had an internal lock as well as key card entrance.
If you’re looking for cheap, borderline unsafe and dingey this is your place.
I will never set foot near it again! Awful experience.
